| Decided to go ahead and install the manual choke cable on my Bug and all was going well until I ran up against something in the choke cable tube. I have about 1-2 feet of cable to still push through the tunnel. I have the Bug jacked up in the rear and blocked but I can not see the end of the cable any where. I started at the front behind the beam and inserted the cable into it's tube. Will it come out the right or left side of the car or straight over the top of the transmission? If I continue to push the cable further it comes to a dead stop. Twisting it does not help. Is there a tube at the motor end that I should be looking for. This shouldn't be that difficult but I am stumped. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance for all of your replies! |

The choke cable will exit the pan on the Left-side, along the same area where the accelerator & clutch cable exit.
There is obviously an obstruction in the tube. As to what it is, I can take a very educated guess. The old cable probably deteriorated a few years ago and some of the plastic sheathing volcanized inside the tube causing the blockage. |

It maybe caught on this part, http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/DetailsList.cfm?ID=111701293A
If you have about 2 foot hanging out, thats about the same lenght from the rubber boot to the carb. |

| Got the choke cable run through to the motor. I think I was hanging up on the grommet in front of the left swing axle. I backed out the choke lever about 4 inches from the dash and was able to get the cable housing through the grommet. Then came the real tough part........where does the cable go to get to the engine compartment. Found the hole right below the throttle cable. Small hole and I had to thread it blind but got it through! Thank you all for your help! |
