 i just bought a 65 bug that i am going to turn into a baja. i know that the front is link pin but is it irs or swing axle.

If it is still stock then it is a swingaxle.

baja5 is right again

if the pan has been swapped it could be an irs pan. look at the drive axles, do they have two rubber flex boots on on the top next to the transaxle? if you just see two it is a swing axle. if your see four rubber boots (two next to the transaxle and one near each wheel) and a small diameter axle you have an irs car.

Damn herbie, you're starting to sound like SHMO with all those long winded(i mean informative) explainations.

:P thanks a bunch that helps out
now for another ? i was looking into a one piece front end, but cutting the front end looks difficult. i have the build a baja book but it was only showing how to put a 7 piece. is it possible to mess it up when i cut it, and what is a good front end to look at.

Here is how mine is cut for the 1 piece front end.The glass is Mark V.

Cutting off the front end is not hard at all!!
This one took me 10 min with a 7.5" cutoff wheel and a 4" grinder

In the background you can see my other baja that the firewall was cut out of it!! Here is another picture of it

Hope it helps! happy cutting!!
