I have searched and searched. I know there is a thread somewhere with some good tuning advice for this carb. Anyone have it bookmarked?

No that isn't it. There is a thread that actually walks you thru tuning the carb.

Here's some good reading..

Or, the quick way:

1. Remove fuel line and plug.
2. Remove 4 nuts/bolts holding carb to manifold.
3. Remove throttle cable barrel nut.
4. Place carb in trash receptacle.

Another source would be www.aircooled.net in the technical section. Several good carb articles

If you are serious about tuning your progressive, I would suggest buying the Weber Techbook by Haynes. There is a ton of good information in there.

From all my experence with off road baja's, manx clones & rails (I still own all three kinds) I say "UNCLE BOB" got it right!!!

Please don't spend any money experimenting with the progressive. Aside from being impossible to get running right, they have an inherent flaw that really makes them suck at least, and dangerous at most when used off-road. Just this weekend I was riding in a buggy with a progressive and the throttle kept hanging wide open. Basically, sand would get into the secondary shaft of the carb and since there is no bushing there (its steel on steel), the sand hangs the secondaries open causing the motor to rev uncontrollably until shut off (or blowed up).

After speaking with many others riding, they've all personally experienced this with the progressive and have since thrown them away.

my buddy's tub buggy did that all the time. it also never ran great. he ended up throwing it away and putting dual kads on it

I will let you in on a little secret (I guess) I am running a progressive carb, looks just like a weber, but it is a motorcraft. It has been off/on my 1835 for the last 10 years and I have never had a problem with it. (I switch it back and forth with my duals.) It is supposed to be identical to the weber, just stamped motorcraft instead. I don't have flat spots, stuck throttles, or any other problems people are always saying happen with the progressives. It has been running in several different vehicles without one hint of trouble! I also had a progressive weber on a scirocco for a few years with no problems. Maybe I just got ahold of a couple of good ones or something!
