Well thank you for your pic although it would be nice if you coul get more under the pan and take a pic of it with bolts and washers. Other than that my heather channels are not original as you can see at the beginning of my post and I have protected my underpan with protection. Anyway thank you.

Quote: You need to weld those taillight holes closed. You can drill new mounting holes after the car is painted. And I agree with the others about eliminating the exhaust cutouts and opening the semaphore boxes if this is indeed a '54. (And cut the lawn!)

Thank you for suggestions but i will keep this apron until I find right one. I have no backyard and all pics that you have seen are in the my friends yard where I am just a guest so I have to hurry as much as I could. If it was my garage I would take it easy while looking for the right parts. This is the answer to other suggestions regarding semaphores and lawn. This is a feb.54 oval and it has welded wholes for smphr. I have no semaphores and I have scheduled paint job in a few days. Later when i find them I will make the installation.

Fenders were bought here in Belgrade and they are from Denmark but fabricated in Brazil, Sao Paolo.

zdravo Veskovic!

nice project you have there. Funny thing is that I am also restoring one Oval in Belgrade (Dorchol). At the moment I am busy with welding...

Good luck and keep us updated with progress!

Yes they are. I had an option to put steel lines but I pick those.

Care radim je za sebe. Da je vozim svaki dan.
That is funny thing. We will be in contact to exchange views and opinions . And I am keeping it because I am already in love with her.

So daily runner...good...I alwas had pleasure crusing in a Beetle around Belgrade.

I already have two super beetles, one convertible and one sedan, stock as they can be. With this Oval, I am wondering, what direction to take...

I guess it will be something like this with some hot engine and in Polar Silver..

Are copper brake lines safe?

I don't want to rain on anybody's parade but I dont think so, copper is much softer than steel, I wouldn't trust it but i'm not an expert.

Well that exactly was the question I asked but was convinced that steel lines corrode and disappear as time goes by and copper ones just have green patina (like on the roofs of the old buildings ) which protects them so they last much longer than steel ones. If anybody knows better please advice.

veskovici,

It might be too late but regarding your copper lines. Keep in mind that copper will work harden over time and can become brittle in the process. One way to slow this process is to put rubber isolators in areas where the copper will experience major vibration or flexing. Just cut a 1/2 to 1" section of the line and bridge it with a length of rubber or similat hose. That's what the motorcycle folks do: http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8883&&showall=1

Great project, keep us posted...

im not sure on how well high pressure will do in copper. but the fuel live i dont think will hurt as long as you get grommets in the pan head and rear fork so the dont rub... but i would definatly use steel hard lines for the main brake, and braided or stock for the jumpers to the wheels.

Apron is fine, but the holes should be welded. This H apron isn't cheap, so if you do replace it, don't dispose of the one on your car. Best bet is to weld, not replace. If you run a later engine, and just want a cheap stock 1600 muffler (which is probably what the person who cut the holes did) then leave the cutouts. Every car doesn't have to be "perfect" to be enjoyed, and it sounds like for the most part you're going to drive this one.

Then my post probably finds you too late. Better idea is to open them now, and then fit a stainless block off plate over the holes with rubber gaskets. Also make sure the wiring is there and working. If you make your own plates, you can put little LED bulbs in them to show you have the wiring working, and for that little extra bit of safety. Once you have installed a headliner, quarter window rubber and paint you won't want to do this later. Sems aren't THAT hard to find, even if they're not cheap. Open the holes now, or don't bother.

Similarly, I didn't see rags down in the area for the channels when you blasted. Use a strong shop vac and BLOW through your heat runs a LOT before you install an interior. Normally you rag that stuff off, or the first time you turn on your heat, your "new" car will be covered with dust.

Replace your copper lines with stainless if you're worried about rust. Otherwise just give them a coat of paint. It will take 20 years for steel lines to rust out, but the copper will fail in 8-10. The copper will also set up a battery effect anywhere copper comes in contact with the steel. The paint will wear away, the metals will touch, and you will have rust. If this is a driver throughout the year, the car likely won't last 20 years before having to be redone.

GREAT project! Wish you all the luck with it!!!

Due to fact that I write this post again it may not be as it was the first time but:

The apron will stay as I will put later engine in it.
The semaphores do not impress me so I will go easy with them. I will install them eventually but no hurry.
Copper lines are Ok and if they don last 15, 10 years I will change them in 8 years. I did it before and I can do it again (I will paint the copper lines tks)

And I spent a two days blowing air in to the heather channels trying to remove send. It was hardest thing to do.

ROTFL... I put a shop vac on one side, and blew compressed air in the other, moving the compressed air around as much as possible, and frequently exchanging positions. THAT was just to get the mouse nests out - haven't blasted yet. :) I'll stuff rags in there when we blast. :)

Someone should really say this: the exhaust pipe on the floor will NOT fit your car!
Seriously though, it's a great project. Looking forward to the next pictures.
Cheers!

How long is the project planned for?
