Hi
New to the site so don't know my way around or if I'm posting in the right place.
Here's the question
My friend has a 70s convertible beetle , the charge light does not go all the way out when you start the engine and the battery will go flat in around a week.
We put a meter on the output of the generator and it shows 14 or so volts but at the battery terminal there is only about 11.5 volts.
There is a small gold metal box shaped component under the back seat in line to the battery, which we assume is a regulator but is not a bosch part, I think spanish, Bergamo or some such name. This was apparently fitted recently by a Beetle "specialist" The green wire from the other terminal on the generator also goes to this component. The original spade connectors have been butchered to fit this.
Any info or ideas on how to proceed would be brilliant :-)
What tests would be appropriate?
Is there a downloadable manual somewhere?
TIA

OK I've just found the "Bug" forum which I presume is a better place to post.
