Just started a project w/ my son, he turned 15 on July 4th, monday the 7th he got his learners permit, today we started to pull the dead engine from the 91 golf gl, 4-dr./snrf/5-spd.. I stopped to help 2 young ladys on the highway, 1st thing they asked was how to open the hood......... no oil, no H2o, no engine,,,
Gave her my card, said if its "toast" , call me, it was/she did, tripple A plus'ed it home, FREE Car, now we buy a 92 engine ,90k miles,200$(delivered!), And here we are, ready to do it to it.
Last year I did a free Fox Wagon with my Daughter, it was a little worse for ware, but we got it on the road for $850, I drove it 8,500 miles this Fall /Winter, she starts driving it herself this month !! I hope I can do the golf for less, but ya never know...........

FINALLY !@#$%^&!@#$%^& the free 91 golf runs, We spent about 5 hours swapping the old engine out, put a new clutch & head pipe on the new motor, got a buddy to time it- she runs great !!!!!! 6 hours labor 475$ in parts & beer- and we've got the kids 1st car !! Plus I have a winter beater too!! Nice having a garage that you can close the door & walk away and deal with the problem another day - Serenity NOW !

The Golf is now my offical winter beater, were up to $640, it runs great !!
we've put about 1000 miles on it, so far so good, my Son wanted something a little more flashy, but for the money, he's happy....

Good Work!! That Golf should be good for another 200,000 miles! My sisters 92 Jetta has 260,000 on it right now and she still drives it everyday. It actually is not a beater at all, it is still clean believe it or not. Put Mobil 1 15-50 in that bad boy and drive the piss out of it.
I currently drive a 84 Rabbit that I got for free. It was parked in the street and it got smacked by a garbage truck. The lady was a customer of the shop were I work. She did not want to fix it so I got it for free. I put a front clip on it, used fenders, hood, radiator etc. etc. $1000 total. 30,000 miles later and no problems. I drive it 60- 100 miles a day. God I love ALL VWs!!!!
