Another look. I have been a reader here since i got this buggy in june and any question i had it was already discussed on this site. This site helped me identify the body and what kind of motor. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/304493.jpg

Looks cool. Did you put in some kind of body lift? The Sandshark is notorious for having little to no carb clearance and it looks like you have plenty.

Details- It has a custom made tube steel frame with irs rear suspension and a kingpin front with wheel adapters on both ends, fronts are wide 5 to 5 lug chevy, Rears are 4 lug to wide 5. Motor is a 1967 ho code 1500cc single port with 53HP,empi ceramic coated exhaust, new china made alternator, new solex carb, new pertronix electronic ignition,Rear disk brakes with neal hydraulic pedals and hydraulic clutch and a scat shifter and a early corvette gas door. I have no idea what the taillights came from if you know post it. This site rocks! Phil

I didnt build the frame but it was very well built with 2x3 tube main frame and angle iron around the outside with a flat floor made with 3/4 inch plywood. The floor sit so that the shifter box sits right on the floor. I know what you mean about sand sharks not having carb clearance, I parked next to my friends sand shark and i saw how his was cut out wide enough for the entire shroud to stick up to the top lip of the body. Another guy was telling me that these bodies were made by two engineers from general motors and they designed them to work with a corvair motor.

Without doing a load of searching, the taillights look like those off of a Corvair.

they sure do look like corvairs

I have a Sand Shark assembly manual and they suggest Corvair taillights in the manual. I would bet they are Corvair.

Thanks guys,I can assume that the guages are corvair also and the tachometer probably wont work with a 4 cylinder. None of the guages are operating at the moment but it has a speedo, tach, clock, cylinder head temp, vacumn and gas guage. Autometer guages are on my wish list along with douglas polished spindle mount wheels and a 2332 cc motor.
