I'm in need of the little rubber pcs that fit on the lip of the engine compartment floor, near the taillights.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? Or where I can get them?

Hi ACH,

Do you mean the rubber plugs that fit in the 4 body drain holes at the rearmost
section of the engine deck panel? (2 on each side of the engine lid latch)

If so, the VW part # is 111.801.177 and these were still available from VW Dealerships when I checked a few weeks ago, naturally a "special order" part.
I think they were priced @ about $2 each and I don't think there is any other source because I've never seen a reproduction part.

Thanks Vince, but that's not it. The pc I need actually attaches to the engine compartment floor, but is not generally "seeable". It goes between the floor and outer sheetmetal. What I need would be about where the red line is in this pic. http://www.geocities.com/aircooledhead/kgpB.html

Oh man, sorry about that!
Now I know the rubber part you need and generally, when I need one, I just cut open the sheet metal on one of the parts cars we have and snatch it out.
Never seen that pc offered by any of the KG suppliers as a new part, either.

I don't thing that rubber is rare I purchased some from KGP&R 2-3 years ago and used it for my trunk area of my 58. I believe its the same stuff used for the front mud plates which is the same as the rubber behind the nose sealing against the inner side panels. You have to cut it to size but thats a simple job.

Yes. Karmann Coachwerks used the mud sill plate gasket for the mud sill plate, between the nose and the inner trunk panel, and the engine bay. Order a couple of seals and cut them to fit. Those Italians were very crafty and resourceful. :D

Been to long since taking my 68 apart, mud sill has the extralong arm that has attached bolt into the front trunk. When putting the rubber seal on the mud sill...aka hinge piller cover...does it only go on the curved side of the plate? The seal I got from KGPR is too long for one side and too short for both. I am guessing it goes all the way up and only on the curved side.

The rubber doesn't go out onto the arm, it stops at the top of the plate. From what I can recall of it, the arm had a foam piece stuck to it that sealed it against the underside of the fender. I have never seen one where the foam wasn't totally deteriorated though.

Nice search btw, digging up a 2003 post!

Thanks man. Title said "Rare" who wouldnt want to check into a rare topic. and it proves i at least searched a little.
Trying to remember when I took mine off (camera was broken, really messed up the disassembly)...i dont remember any foam, but I believe there was quite a bit of putty type stuff on the upper end for sealing. Any one know what type of product is available today that might duplicate it? And...just up the curved side sounds right? KGPR is generous with the rubber, ill have enough to use it up front and back by tail lights too.

If that putty is D-19 tape (as VW calls it), then yes. I get it from my local camping supply. It's used for sealing roof vents and windows on campers. It comes in varying widths, for about 5 to 10 bucks for a 30 ft roll. I hope this helps.

It sounds like it was putty tape.

I remember it being dirty, and crumbling as I touched it.
