I picked up a 1972 901 tail shift from a 914. I still need to flip the diff right? Anything else? |

To put in a bug? a tail cone and shifter rods outta of 912/911 901 so you can adapt to it as the 914 tranny doesn't have the proper hockey stick type shift lever.
EASY auto parts in the Bay Area should have all those parts. |

Yes, it will go in a 61 bug. I bought the following:
72 914 tail shift tranny
shifter and shifter rod.
Do I need the other items you are speaking of? Do I have to flip the diff still? |

Need some help. I got the 1972 914 tail shift tranny and have some concerns.
First the shift selector is off to the side. Am I going to have to get a tail cone from a 911? What needs to be done to make it work in the beetle?
Here is a picture of the tail end.

| yes, you need the tail cone and matching shift rods out of a 911 901 and you will have to flip the diff to the other side. or you will have 5 speeds in Reverse. |

| Where can I get a tail cone at? So the shift rods from the 914 are no good then? Will the shifter work from the 914? |

Gary at PartsObsolete.com in Oregon should also have it.
You need the tail cone, shifter rods, shifter rod, etc to convert a 914 tailshifter toa 901 for a 911/912.
You will have to flip the diff to the other side by pulling the gear stack and re installing it. Note the paper shims between the case and the intermeditate plate as those have to be new and the same paper shims! |

915- came out in 73? and the last years are the one to use 78-82? Stronger but it does have its internal problems with bearing seats. $$$ to fix.
for a bug use a 911/912 one also there are tons of gear sets to choose from and its easy to switch them in a 901 tranny. In a 914 you can remove just the gear cluster (ala a race car) and switch gears sets without pulling the whole tranny out. handy
I have a question. I am getting ready to do the porsche 5 speed swap and have came across a 5 speed. The numbers are 911 01 710 1004
and supposably came out of a 911. Is this a 5 speed and will it work? |

| I also would like to convert to a 5 speed and estimate hp around 150. Can a 902/16 box from a 912 be used or are the ratios in a 901 from a 911 more desireable? |

I found a transmission and need a little help identifying it.
Is it a 4 or 5 speed.
The numbers are
901.301.101.OR
901.301.311.01
52/66
237071
These are all the numbers. Is this a 4 speed or 5 speed? |
