What’s more uncommon or rare, a 59 -63 double door walk-thru or a 64 -67 double door walk-thru. Any helpful input is appreciated.
Thanks |

Hi Ragtop,
Would think the earlier is less available. Check the vintagebus.com registry for what is listed there and how many. |

| They made more double doors in 59-63. So in theory 64-67 would be more uncommon. |

| Maybe so, but the 59-63 wins hands down for coolness.. |

Thanks Greg
I always thought the earlier were more uncommon, but I've been told the same as your comment by a few persons. I own both a 58 double door panel and a 65 double door walk-thru sundial |

| I think the earlier walk throughs were hard to find. Especially in a DDP. |

NAES has a '59DDWT panel
and I saw a '58DDWT panel at OCTO. It was the pimped out midnight blue one with tweed interior, chromed big bumpers with no overriders and a '67 decklid. |

| For Panels, I've seen way more 58-63 DD walk-throughs than 64-67. |

| So then its safe to say that the 64-67 double door walk-thru is more uncommen? |

As per Lind:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=137844
Quote: panels were the model that was most likely to be either a walk through or more importantly a doubledoor.
in my opinion:
any doubledoor that is not a panel is rare.
any pre '57 doubledoor panel is rare.
any pre '58 walk through panel is rare.
any pre '59 walk through that is not a panel is rare
'58 walk through panels are borderline rare
'59 and later doubledoor walk through panels are uncommon (5%-10%)
'59 and later walk through panels are somewhat uncommon (10%-30%)
'57 and later doubledoor panels are common (20%-40%)
'63 and later panels (uncut for camper windows) are much less common than '58-'62 panels.
I am just estimating off the top of my head from the thousands of buses that I have seen over the years in my travels and on the internet.
The twist seems to be that pre-61 walk thru buses (of whatever type) are fairly uncommon to begin with. A later walk-thru is not uncommon at all....unless it is a double door bus??? |

If your looking at it strictly from a Double Door stand point, there are more 59-63 then 64-67
The only way to really solve this is to see actual production #s of DD and DD w/t |

| DD's kick ass! I have 3 - 58, 59, 61. 59 and 61 are DDWT. I like to line them up and just look through all the open doors. Sometimes I'll load a couch in sideways and cruise the 'hood lookin for attention :) Sounds like vw howard beat me though, better get lookin for a couple more! |
