HamburgerBrad wrote: hah, that's pretty damn optimistic. first off, look at the size of all the components and the SINGLE ball joint on those suspensions. second, look at where the upper mount of the suspension is: the fender well, stamped steel. I didn't even like driving my old super on the street without a strut tower brace. the stamped steel of the body is nowhere near the strength of the beam style suspension where everything is mounted to the thicker, braced steel of a stock pan or tubular frame. if you plan on keeping your super beetle struts on a baja bug, i would build tower braces into a roll cage for sure.

so you're right, i have NO faith in the super beetle front end

bajaherbie wrote: if super beetle struts were stout enough for off road use the vw magazine ads would have accessories and parts for them. the only thing i've seen for them are strut braces and parts to LOWER them. maye you should look for a baja that is already raised up and caged and stick your motor and adapter in it. if your staying on the street you might be able to get away with what you're doing but i don't think it will last long in the dirt. heck you live in california, used motorless bajas are a dime a dozen. i'm not trying to rain on your parade, i'm just trying to be realistic.
SHMO wrote: Another point to make regarding the Supers front end design are those goofy (and VERY expensive) control arms. That area looks very weak to me. Also, by adding longer coils to a factory strut you cannot increase the travel. The strut, like a shock will only extend and collapse so much. And, no factory strut will dampen a large off road tire and wheel. Bottom line, the suspension will be weak, won't cycle anymore travel than stock and there won't be an effective way to dampen the travel it does have. So, where do you go from there?

there is no kit. sure, you can lift it, i've done it. but it did not work well at all and was unsafe to drive.
