WTF. for 45000, i really think he could replace the decklid springs, and lose the prop stick.
whats a decklid spring, like 5-10 bucks?
Man, that car's in the the new issue too. How do you spend that kind of time and money just to sell the car shortly after? |

Lol, that car wouldnt be half bad if it was a different color, wasnt a targa top, and didnt have those broke ass pokemon ear lookin things on the roof. Other than that, its a stunner! :)

| i must be pretty lucky. i bought my current 60-something for about $200. not sure about how much i'm going to be spending but it is pretty much complete and completely functional 'cept for one of the double-eye lenses being broken. i have two pairs of complete headlight assemblies on the way. shipping to the philippines is a killer though. |

Why do people advertise there car as 80% or even 90% restored when the body is still primered? When did a paint job become 10% of the restoration???

I agree. It's either restored or it isn't. Simple as that... and a car with just primer on it is not restored... |

| Boo for Summer jacking up all the prices. Boo for being on the east coast where rust let's you proclaim "All original!" I also like it when they say it's a real easy project and just needs heater channels and floorpans ... because they're extremely easy and inexpensive to do right? riiiiiiiight.... |

I own a couple of Vintage VWs and I can tell you they are heaven when it comes to parts availability and price compared to other vintage cars. I think that some other cars, say Corvette, Camaro or Mustang, also have a lot of parts availability too. But cost you dearly most of the time.
If I have any complaints about VW parts is the fact that some people make cheap crappy poor quality parts for them and you have to watch out. Aside from that, I've been able to find anything I need and it hasn't been very expensive compared to other cars.
I've got a couple of AMC Gremlins right now and while the parts aren't expensive usually for these, I've come to the conclusion that I just might never find everything I need to restore both of these cars and may have to settle for one only.
If you think parts are expensive and hard to find for VWs, get you an old Ford Edsel or something made by British Leyland. After that you'll be tickled pink to get back to your Volks! |

I definitely hear you on that, believe me I understand how cheap VW's are compared to just about every other car. My friend is really into old Camaro's and you have to pay thooooousands of dollars to even get a sniff of a crap car, let alone one that is decent condition.
I just wanted to get in the spirit of "whining", and my frustration just comes from people who are obviously fishing for a sucker by pricing their car way out of it's market range, and just flat out overstating the cars condition from what can clearly be seen.
I love VW's! |
