Slanted vent wings and large windows definitely not a 61 body.

This more of a general whine/question, but the above ad reminded me of it again. The last time I checked, Paypal seller fees were still 2.9%, yet I see many sellers asking for 4%. Am I missing something here? Or is that to somehow make up the extra fees that are lost when the final price plus fees amount is calculated?

I think the only part that is 1961 is the engine cover. The rest looks to me like a '66 (could be '65 but I see a 1/2 ring horn button, which could be another '61 part.)

It may be to account for international buyers that cause the 3.9% fee.

Nah, that's a 65. First year for the bigger windows, last year for not having a center defrost vent.

In addition:
With the fixed fee added in, it's can easily be more than 2.9% on lower-cost items.
It all depends in the total overall cost involved.

He just joined today. He must not have done a classified search to check prices before he posted up his for sale.

Good catch. On closer inspection of that tiny interior shot it also appears that the horn half-ring is chrome. So we've found a couple of 1961 parts on that car. :)

glutamodo Sun Jun 03, 2012 9:03 pm

Yeah, the peanut front blinkers as well. Although they appear to be mounted too far back on the fenders. Can't tell if that's a 61 hood - the photos aren't good enough for me to tell if the area around the VW is punched up or flat (both 61 hoods were flat) despite it having a crest on there. But there's so little that's original about this car anymore that it's hard to say.

6Kabrio7 Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:21 am

Also it is Bahama Blue correct? BB was not a 61 color.

I PM'd asking for clarification, but (no surprise) no reply as of yet. I wondered if it was a later body on an earlier pan.
