Hey, I love beetles, but I would NEVER pay $4000 for a rust bucket!

Or is it just me?

How can a car that has new paint, a new headliner, new interior, new rubber, plastic instrument cluster cover, alternator, Brazilian carb, bumpers, and fuel pump be "totally stock" and "all original"???

"1967 All Original Bug, totally stock and restored by..." What!?! :-s ](*,)

...and only $9,800....

Exactly. Don't forget the 009 distributor, the wrong coil, etc. Overall the bug looks good and finding the correct items wouldn't be too hard. It's just not worth $9800, sorry.

Can I get an opinion on the pricing? Is it in fact NOS? Does it seem inline?

NOS? This'll start a debate about what is and isn't considered NOS. What's not in debate is that they are German pea shooters made for VW. They probably are better than other replacement/aftermarket tailpipes, and I would consider these over others. As for the price, it's not completely absurd, but a tad strong (at least in my estimation). Look around and see what suppliers have available or other sellers. Perhaps make him an offer for what you think is reasonable for your wallet and see what he says

My wallets fine - I was just looking for good pea shooters to replace my others...Seemed a little high to me for what they were...

I didnt mean to imply that you couldn't afford to pay his asking price. Perhaps I should have said "make an offer that seems more reasonable to you for a pair of pea shooters".

It's always funny to me when people post Bugs for trade. Just an example:

A guy has a 66 Bug that he wants to trade for Notch or Split Bus in similar condition.

Is a 66 Bug and a 66 Notch in the same condition of equal value? Not in my opinion but maybe I'm missing something.

How about a Bug for a Bus? Still, not even close in terms of value.

67 Florida Deluxe Fri Jul 18, 2008 8:53 am

Good point. All things being equal with respect to condition, a bus or notch is not going to be valued the same as a same-year bug. Very simply, it's a supply issue. There are many times more Type 1s around than Type 2s and Type 3 notches. When I got my '59 subhatch Westy, offers came from far and wide for trades of all sorts - some of which were very tempting ('52 split-window bug with factory ragtop, '66 21-window with sunroof) and some just "testing the waters" to see if I was uninformed about the rarity of my bus and would bite on their offer. Bottom line is, you had better find out the value of what you have and the value of what someone wants to trade. I would submit that seldom will a trade occur without some degree of boot required by one of the parties.

Here is the best part... That car was at Koch's still freshly built and not even fully assembled about a week before The Classic. I find it funny that it is for sale already. On that note the paint and all the work on the car is beautiful, even if it isn't completely correct.

carlo Graff Sun Jul 27, 2008 2:16 pm

My whine is to the whiners: what other car can you restore more easily and quickly than A VW? Parts everywhere! Although I don't understand how some people can jack their prices so high, you can't find a less expensive car to build and run. Wish I still had my 60 ragtop with a 1200cc- over 30m mpg! And I can stuff a whole apartment in, and on, and still haul ass, with my Bus! Don't buy from the ripoff artists, they'll go away. Enuff! Keep 'em rollin!

How about $40K for a late model bug with an electric conversion? I like the "$31K in labor" line, damn, If I could get away with that, think of all the money we ALL have lost wrenching on, then selling our cars, where I work, we charge $160 an hour!!!!!

That is just insane!!! Just because I spend 2 days changing brakes doesn't make the brake job worth 2 days pay
