| Hi, My sister needs new batteries for her key fob and the owners manual says to take it to a dealer. Is there some special tool to replace batteries now or what? Can anyone help me out as the VW dealer is two hors away. Thanks, Rob |

| The remote might need to be reprogrammed after replacing the battery, so the dealer might be the best thing.....for now, tell her to use her key to unlock the doors. :D |

No dealer required based on my experience, open the key fob,
it slides apart in two parts at the seamed lines, but don't force it take your time.
Take the battery out, go to Walgreens and get another battery.
Install and re-assemble.
So how do I know this?
After letting VW rip me off on this for the Key Fob on the 2001 Passat wagon,
I proceeded to run the key fob for the 2005 New Beetle convertible through the wash.
I discovered this problem halfway the dry cycle when along with the banging of the key fob in the dryer,
the car's alarm goes off in the garage.
I could not kill the alarm because the wet steamy key fob was shorting to panic mode.
So I had to open the fob, and pop the battery out.
Once I did that, I was able to use the other key fob to kill the alarm.
I let the whole thing dry for a day, but assumed it would be no good.
For grins I put it back together, and it still works like a champ. |
