Restoration of this 69 was a family affair. We did ALL of the work including paint & engine rebuild. Had a lot of fun chasing down the Dodge purple paint.

"One man's "patina" is another man's cancer."

Just turned 52 and new to the forum...please explain.

Thanks!

Patina refers to the surface grime/rust/fading of a car. Rust is regarded as cancer, so while some people think it looks good, other people note (rightly) that the appearance is not worth the damage the rust is causing when left unchecked.

My daughter now lives in Forida where I sent her these pictures over the weekend. She emailed me last night to tell me how much she enjoyed that project and wished she had told me that years ago. It really meant a lot to her to work on the 69 as a family project. I forgot to add that she paid for all of the materials to complete this project. Not bad for a 17 year old working for minumum wage.

My wife & I now own a 2006 NBC that we really enjoy. I have a bug ( no pun intended) up my ass to find another project...starting to look..

Thank you all for the nice words.

I have been checking them twice a day. Have not made up my mind what type I want or if I want another project or one that has had a ground up restoration already done. Since we have a NBC, I am leaning towards a convert.

Get a notchback, that's my next adventure after I'm done with my 68 ghia.

well - keep cruising the VW mags and the classifieds till something strikes your fancy. I cut my teeth on a ebay manx clone. Was all done (well as done as you ever get), then noticed a VW woodie........ I didn't even know that they existed (technically they don't, but they have been done). Now I am in the midst of my first body off rebuild and I am having a ball (most of the time anyway LOL).

There's all kind of ideas out there and of course once we are done with this that will be it. We don't plan on ever selling either car, so I don't need another car.....but then I always thought that Ghias were really cool........ LOL Thanks heavens these things are relatively inexpensive...

We actually owned a 69 Ghia at the time we fixed up this 69 Beetle. Never did anything with it and sold it for less money than we we paid for it. The biggest problem that I have, is that I have no garage space. We show English Bulldogs and have converted about 1/3 of our garage into a dog room. The rest is full of junk. I think that is why I am considering something that has already been restored.

Well. I had 2 bays under my house that we use to keep cars in - I did the buggy over the winter in one of them. I was planning on buying a "storage barn" for one of the cars and do the woodie in the one bay like I did the buggy. FORTUNALTELY We decided that having another full garage would be nice, so we built a 24x24 which is now completely sucked up by the woodie since I ended up buying 2 cars for the project.

I love it when you set up a budget for a project, then decide to spend another $7 grand just for a place to keep it LOL. So - maybe a good complete car would be a good idea for you LOL. Then all you need to do is some tinkering....... yeah right LOL.
