View original topic: Where to buy 356 reproduction gages? Goto page 1, 2  Next

Where can I get reproduction 356 gages? I have heard that there are some made in China and others in Brazil and they are 5mm smaller than the originals. That would be OK for what I want to use them on though.
I know that there is a couple of shops in Cali that actuallly restore and sell original gages but they are a little too much for this project.
Any help will be apreciated.
Thanks
Kris

You might try:

http://www.intermeccanica.com/

Although they are in the business of manufacturing complete cars, they do have the Brazilian gauges. They are not 100% accurate, but they are made by VDO of Brazil. Intermeccanica may sell you some gauges. They may not sell them. I don't know.

I have tried before several times and that site will not load.
Thanks

Try entering through this link. It's a listing of all of the various Speedster manufacturers:

Try this:

http://www.intermeccanica.com/

It's the elipses that are included in the link that are preventing the connection.

I know not to include the elipses...it still does not load.
As far as the speedsterowners site, I have bben through there and I have found a few kit builders that offer them but for the most part unless you buy a kit from them are either really expensive or not very helpful. I figure with so many kits beeing manufactured, there should be someone importing these gauges and selling them through their retail sites.

Well out of sh&*s and giggles I tried to look up intermeccanica on the PC, I'm a Mac guy, and nothing. I am familiar with intermeccanica, they biult reallty top notch kits but unfortunately I have not been able to load their site for some time now.

Have you looked into your security settings? Loads fine on mine.

Intermeccanica imports their repro guages directly from the manufacturer in Brazil. The "other" speedster manufacturer in CA used to buy their gauges also from the same source, but that supplier is difficult to deal with, so they went to China. They are the only importer of those repros.

I have tried it on several computers, at home and at work and even my laptop. Same thing I get the Server not found error.
I even tried different browsers. I think I know who the manufacturer is in Brazil, I have come accross their site but they don't list the 356 gages.
Thanks

Which gauges do you want? What car do you have? I have to call Henry next week anyway, I can ask.

The link still works on my 'puter. Maybe your porn filters are blocking it?

66 Käfer Sun Nov 05, 2006 4:00 pm

True, VDO of Brazil makes them too, but there was another company down there that made them and they looked just like the real thing although they may have gotten in trouble with VDO because of copyright laws. They no longer show them on their website. They are not going on a Speedster, I actually want the gages like on a Coupe. tach, speedo and combo gage. A triple combo gage ala 904 would be ideal. The tach preferably with the higher redline like a super 90 or a Carrera but any of them would do.
That is really strange with the site, I have absolutely no filter and it still does not load...

I can load http://www.intermeccanica.org though...

How about trying a direct email?

Their address is:

info@intermeccanica.com

Maybe let them know what you need and explain the difficulty in getting to their site and such. You know what I mean.

Couldn't hurt.

Yep, that sounds like a good idea, until now I had no way of contacting them.
If I do a search, it shows up and all the different pages within the site show up but I cannot connect to any of them, strange.
Thanks I'll send them an email.

How is IM going to solve a problem with his 'puter? There is nothing wrong with the IM web site.

66 Käfer Tue Nov 07, 2006 3:04 pm

There is no problem with my computer, it is either the connection or the server where the site resides. I have tried it from various computers in different locations and it is all the same. No connection with the server.
Anyway I send them an email but have not gotten a response yet.

"How is IM going to solve a problem with his 'puter?"

Oh, cut it out! You know that I didn't mean that.

I just thought that an email, with an explaination of WHY he was emailing, rather than going through the site, might kinda get a "conversation" started. Help get things rolling and hopefully end up with some gauges coming his way.

Sometimes a busy business doesn't like random emails, especially for parts rather than turn-keys. I thought that an explaination like, "I'm getting in touch with you via email because I was having trouble accessing your site, hope you don't mind." might pave the way.

Nobody expects IM to begin phone-line tech advice for customers computer access problems . . .

66 Käfer Wed Nov 08, 2006 10:29 am

I hear you, I know what you mean and that is preciselly what I'm thinking as well. They aren't interested in selling me just the gauges. They really couldn't care less if I can't get in touch with them to buy a few hundred bux in parts.
Not beeing able to access their website can hurt their kit sales though. I can't imagine that I'm the only one that is having that problem. I e-mailed them to let them know about that problem. I really don't expect to hear back from them either way. If they respond to my email, great, if not, that's OK. I'll find the gauges elsewere. I have found them but I don't like the idea of having to deal internationally. I much rather support local sales.
I also have my eye on some originals but I have the feeling they are going to go for some serious coin and they need some resto work.

We'll see...

The Brazilian VDO gauges are 5mm larger than the originals: 105mm as opposed to 100mm. Just wanted to clear that up to make sure they will still work for you.
We almost always have them in stock.
