Here's some of the latest additions to my vintage VW toy collection....

"Heinrich & Herta"

Two Märklin's from the 1955 to 1958 series of toys

5524/14 E is the Märklin catalog number for the Barndoor Kombi, the original color is greybeige (Graubeige)

and

5524/3 is the Märklin catalog number for the Oval Window, the original color is reseda green (Resedagrün)

Both toys are very rare with their original "Nitro-Lack" paint, both these toys have play marks but are in condition 7.5/8 from 10 and with original paint they are a great find!

I'm looking for some original boxes for them, but I have reproduction ones coming from Germany shortly, if anyone has any mint boxed or exceptionally clean Märklin 5524/ - 8000 series VW's for sale or trade let me know. :)

Enjoy!

Here's another addition to my Vintage VW toy collection......

Here's a 1/43 (or very close) scaled diecast metal VW Oval Window toy that was made in France by CIJ = (Compagnie industrielle du jouet or "Manufacturing Company of toys")
The company made high quality handpainted diecast toys of connonly known French cars of the 1950's.
CIJ's toys were unique by the use of white rubber tires, the toys had a very nostalgic look and feel about them even back when they were new in the 1950's.

Toys from this company are mostly unknown to collectors in the USA and I suppose that their sales in any sort of export during the 1950's were extremely limited, I know they were sold in the French speaking part of Canada, but weither or not Toy Stores in America received them, I really don't know, certainly not in any large amount.

CIJ made a beautiful Oval Window Volkswagen toy 3/10 - (in two different diecast metal forms and three different styled paint schemes and four different colored wheels) - more about all that at a later time.

The shape and look of the toy remind me of the classic 1950's illustrations done by the great German advertising artist Bernd Reuters 1901 -1958 (see below)

My toy is a very late production CIJ Oval made from the second diecasting form from 1956 (this toy was made about 1958) in a very rare color Apple Green.

The box is a very faithful reproduction of the original made by a friend of mine in France.

The CIJ catalog number for this toy was 3/10

The toys were produced from 1953 to 1958.

Enjoy!

Thank you Mr Baron!

I'll have more shots of the CIJ's in my collection posted soon, I'm trying to figure out which toys wll stay and which I will sell/trade away, I have almost ALL the colors CIJ ever made now, thanks to a very lucky connection to some CIJ collectors overseas who helped me attain the toys that I have so far...........

My collection will be very limited, mostly to Vintage Diecast Ovals from a few toy companies only, I've decided to collect the Oval toys that I really like, CIJ's, Märklin's and Tekno's.

And maybe if I'm lucky I'll find a Horizon Blue 1/40 Scale Wiking Promo Oval someday, I think that will be the "Holy Grail" of the toys for the collection.

No. I don't normally do the show scene.

Here's (3) CIJ Oval Window toys that are "for restoration"

The original Dark Green Metallic one will be payment/trade for the work done by Bob ~ I'm thinking that the stripped down series one toy will be nice in Ultramaroon or maybe Jupiter Grey?......And the series two toy (the ugly white one) will be painted Bright Red (like the rarest CIJ toy was).

I'm waiting on some rivet tops and some original "White" CIJ tires to finish them before they go off in the mail and I'm still going to look for another beat up second series toy with Red wheels to paint Horizon Blue.

My latest latest additions to my vintage VW toy collection....

Adding to my original paint Märklin VW toys are these (3) Reproduction boxes, for the first series Oval Window #5524/3 , first series Barndoor Kombi #5524/14 E and the third series Big Window #8005

The latest toy is a 1963 era Märklin #8005 Big Window in Brillant Blue....

Here's a comparison of the two Beetles..........The Big Window toy is the rarest of all the Märklin VW toys, the factory basicly just added two little blinkers on the top of the front fenders and cut a larger hole in the casting for the rear window, they didn't bother to change the deck lid, but as I can see the rubber tire pattern changed slightly from the 1954/55 design.

My toy was once used in a window display for a German Fahrschule (Driving School) and a small hole has been drilled in the base plate to hold a small magnet, I've seen a few Märklin toys with this center hole, so I figure that Drivers Schools all over Germany at that time used their toys on a wooden and metal board to educate people how to drive. :D

Normally I don't collect Big Window VW toys, but the #8005 is really cool looking and it's a major link in the #5524/ #8005 Märklin history and part of the closure/discontinued era of these famous German diecast automobile toys of the early 1960's.

Enjoy!

Enjoy!

Those are some sharp Marklins. I know somebody who would love the green one.

It seems anything with an original box goes through the roof. I saw a red one without a box a couple months ago sell for around $600.

I have been told about a Wiking model that was available from dealerships in 1949/50. It has the same (or very similar) blue/black/white 'garage' box as this..

...but is not a transparent model-instead, the car is grey. Does anybody have details or pictures of such an example?

I have a couple Wiking split cabrio's....one blue/box and one in grey. I bought them from Bill D last Summer.
