What are you trying to say?

vwovalguy Mon Nov 06, 2006 3:12 pm

I think it was an original and someone modernized it to pass inspection :(

Blue Baron Mon Nov 06, 2006 3:14 pm

If that's a '49 then there sure isn't much '49 left of it.

Doktor Brezel Mon Nov 06, 2006 3:45 pm

It is a '49. The pan, nose and arse are original. Too bad they fitted another front apron, later fenders grafted in a new dash :( and made some cut-outs for exhaust pipes...

Apart from the dash and missing split parts I don't think it's that bad though.
And if you can afford a Heb it won't be too hard for you to spend some more $$ on parts..

I recall that it has been offered at an auction in Germany a few years ago. I don't know what the price was back then...

I'd love to have it. Though I think Split Karmanns are much nicer!!!

But it is a real heb!

johnshenry Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:10 pm

And buy it now for ONLY $47k!!!!

Lidpainter Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:31 pm

Looks just like my '71 Heb.

Oldbug.com Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:36 pm

At $47K I'd sell the guy my "Heb"...

Not much real metal on the Ebay one...and the look sure is way off.

Still a cool find though, it would be cool to see someone bring it back to original specs.

And you could make back a cool fifty bucks selling off the 70's parts!

RockStock Mon Nov 06, 2006 4:55 pm

Was at HO05....interesting!

Only pic I could find! Strange...Heb snobbery :?:

Bob, This is the same Heb I found a couple of weeks ago that I had PM'd you about.

 Don't do me any more favors Steven................

I understand there is a Heb out there with an oval dash. I'd rather have that one.

RareAir Mon Nov 06, 2006 6:31 pm

That Heb was the topic on the Stricktly Vintage forums in 2003-04. The owner had stated he had a Split donor to graft all the early parts back on to it. Guess he never got around to it.

If it doesn't come with a McP strut front suspension and an AM/FM cassette deck ... keep looking. Those were rare options back in '49.

Now THAT'S funny.

I can understand the lights I guess, but to graft in a new dash?!?!?

Scheiße!!!!!

Hebster52 Mon Nov 06, 2006 11:43 pm

It was the "tuning" of those days!!

Just as many people today try to make their 80-90's cars look a few years younger by swapping to later parts...

In 60-70's a Heb was just another Bug convertible and obviously the owner wanted a modern look to it... Yes, it is sad but it is still reversable.

An other probable cause would be that it had been in an accident and needed a new frontclip. Better this way than it would have went straight to the scrapyard...

I saw it for sale in 2003-2004 on a Geman site too. The price was way much lower then.. :(

I wish I had the money. I would have the donorparts...

Edit: Here is a link to the site I saw it originally:
Modernized Hebmuller site.

By looking at those pictures the entire frontclip looks to be taken from an Oval. Just look at the bottom of the box behind the sparewheel.

heshstallion Tue Nov 07, 2006 11:26 am

what about that guy that was selling a 70s something vert that he claimed was a heb? it was in the classifieds a while back, i found it quite amusing, what if this was it?
