I know your saying "Well Duh, its a vw"

Oil is leaking out the crank shaft/pulley hole. It was doing this a few hundred miles ago, so i took the motor apart and replaced the piston rings. When i put it back together, with a new scat pulley, it didnt leak. Now its leaking again and its doing it a lot.

Im going to take the pulley off later today and i was wondering if any one has suggestions as to what to check for. I dont have a sand seal, should there be any other kind of seal?

I dont remember putting one in there when i was putting it together.

Thanks for your help!

Oil leaking from the pulley, is usually a sign that you have restricted crankcase breathing. You are not venting the crankcase properly.
Let me see a picture of your breather set up?

With out altering it for a photo, here it is. I hope its as simple as replacing a hose, the one i have on there is kinked.

My Baja was leaking oil. I thought it was coming from the distributor and replaced the o-ring and it still leaked. Oil was collecting right under the crankshaft pulley. Someone on here thought that the breather may be clogged. That was exactly what it was. Zero leaks after freeing up the breather. Definitely check that.

SOLVED!

Thats exactly what it was. I removed the breather line and took it for a spin, and no more leaking.

Thanks for your help guys!

ps, yes, i put the breather back on with the correct kind of hose. Not the clear stuff that was on there.
