Thanks Loogy. How about these? Same wheel with a 38mm offset. Sorry, I am kinda' new at the wheel business.

I picked up a set of 1999 Audi A4 wheels in Craigslist and expect that they should fit on my 82 Westy, but just want to confirm the setup on how to get them on there. As far as I can tell from all the info on this thread, I need the following: (The wheel specs are 7Jx16H2ET45, center bore 57.1mm)

12mm spacers for front and rear
Enlarge centerbore
50mm long front lug bolts
50mm long rear studs

Here is a link to the rims http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/pts/1610203081.html

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Sorry that I did not respond to your email yet. I try not to "work" on the weekends.

Assuming that you have stock brakes and no upper ball joint spacers, I would suggest 15mm spacers just so that you have an easier time with the center caps. That will give you a good offset too. Then you would need 40mm front lug bolts, small ball, small ball seat rear lug nuts and 52mm rear wheel studs.

Let me know if I can help you out with any of those parts.

I've bothered loogy enough via PM, so...

Will this work on a syncro?:

15x7 ASA Type 8 ET40 (same as GW's 15" "Syncro" wheels) + 225/70R15. By my math that puts the tire's outer edge about even with a stock 205, and inward 20mm. Using my finger gauge on my current set up :D , it looks like a 225 at that offset would be pretty tight up front. Spacers needed?

Thanks.

2wd or Syncro?
The issue will be the upper control arm and the edge of the tire. I think you will probably need a small spacer (5mm). Since the wheels are thicker, you will need new hardware anyways so I would put a spacer in the back too.

It's a Syncro.

I'm asking because GoWesty says their 15" ET40 wheels work on a Syncro without any mods or spacers, but there is no reference to tire size. And by my rough estimation a 225/70 tire would be very tight, if even possible. I was thinking of using a small spacer as you suggest if I went this route (would a 5mm be enough to clear?).

Can you elaborate on this?

Thanks.

I'm no expert on this, by any means so take this with a grain. My only experience is with my own van.
I would bet the 225s will clear. GW sells them on their merc copy wheels as a kit.

.

Depending on what wheels you are coming from, the hub area of the merc wheels may be much thick. That means even if you aren't running spacers, you may need longer bolts.
Not a big deal, IMO.
I'd get the wheels. If they don't fit they will be very close and only need a tiny spacer or a couple bucks in hardware.

FYI: just passing along this ad from Audifans.com marketplace $50ea shipped isn't bad price at all. or if you're in the RI area.. contact seller below for pickup details.

these Audi 200 (20V&V8) rims will fit on with only longer studs/bolts. a fat 15" rim (8" section width)

I hate to ask but Ive looked all through the tire sticky and did a search (many times) but I can't find what Im looking for. Has anyone painted there alloy rims. I have the Go westy euro wheels ( Mercede knockoffs) 16 inch rims and I would like to paint them black of some tone or another but am hesitant of doing so without seeing some done first. Does anyone have a picture of what Im looking for or can someone photo shop a picture for me of them? This is there part number if needed. Part # GVW-WP22
Thank you
Tracey

Thanks. With Loogy's help, I was actually able to clear things up. :)

Again, this is for a Syncro - so studs all around. While changing out rear studs is straight forward, the fronts are more work than I care to futz with. GoWesty/ASA wheels are 10mm thick. Just narrow enough to mount on stock studs. And Firestone Destination 225/70R15 should, according to specs, fit with ~5mm inside clearance to upper control arms (15x7 ET40 wheel).

These are the 15's...

I've considered painting black as well...

A graphite type color might be cool...

Thank you Chimivee,
Thats what I was looking for!! I do appreciate your help on this.
It looks very good I might just go that route.
Thanks again

Any advise on the offset of these rims
A friend is giving me these
They were on a VW Vanagon with no spacer
I tried to do some search and I was only able to find that they are America racing custom rims.
Tires Kuhmo 205/55R16 89H ( weight rating not good for my westfalia ?!?)
( any idea on the value as I want to give him a gift of at least equal value)

Thank you

The width should be cast or stamped into the wheel somewhere. Many of the two-piece American Racing wheels have the size stamped into the rim lip on the backside. Almost none of the two-piece wheels show an offset though. If you want to measure the backspacing, I can convert that to a close guestimate of the offset, but only if I know the width of the wheel as well.

How to measure the backspacing:

Hendoo Thu Mar 25, 2010 5:19 pm

Mercedes AMG reps by Rial, TUV approved and made in Germany.

Size: 17x7.5
Offset: 35mm
Centerbore: Standard Mercedes center bore
Lug Hole size: 14mm
Lug seat: Conical
Lug seat depth: 8mm

Able to use stock lugs/bolts from my factory alloys. Very thin spacer used up front only, but only due to the tires being 235/45-17. Won't need spacers when I switch to 225 or narrower tire.

240Gordy Thu Mar 25, 2010 5:35 pm

those are my second favourite wheels Hondoo.
very nice.

Hey all; I've really enjoyed this thread as I'm looking for a set of 16 inch wheels for my Vanagon. I'm looking at a set of 7 spoke Mercedes wheels that came off of an S series. The tires that are on the wheels are 235/60R16 which means that the tire circumference is 4.5 inches larger than the stock-sized tires I'm currently running. My question is this: how much is this going to slow acceleration and maintaining speed on hills? Anybody running larger tires on an aircooled? I have an '82 aircooled that mechanically is completely stock.

When fitting wheel spacers for different wheels i found that racing (over length) studs for a Mazda Miata are a perfect press (drive in ) fit for a 2wd vanagon rear hub

Here's what I did this weekend. Bought some rims from a 1990 (?) Audi V8 - despite what the site previously referenced says, they're 15 x 7.5 ET 35. I had a machinist clearance the centerbores (who thought that I'd be paying $120 to have that done - yikes!) and bought the proper lugnuts from Loogy.

I had the Kumho AT KL78 (215/75R15 load rating 100) mounted on Saturday and so far I must say I'm pretty happy. My mechanic was concerned about the width (or rather narrowness) of the tires for the wide rim, but I don't think it is that big of a deal. The reason I went with these tires wasn't to do a lot of off roading - I'll be keeping to backroads that should be quite passable to 2WD vehicles. I bought them on price and of course load rating and the fact that on Tire Rack they surveyed relatively well in winter too.

Not a ton of clearance on the fronts - I can almost fit my finger in there... This weekend I'm planning on starting the Girling G60 front brake swap. Hopefully I have enough room under the rims to put a 280 or 288mm rotor. Otherwise I'll go with the 276.

Anyways, here are the pics:

Excuse the dirty van - it's cold and miserable outside!

Interesting tidbit about the above wheel/tire combo - I definitely feel the gearing difference, but I took a GPS with me on the way in to work this morning, and my speedo (marked 1000 FWIW) is dead on accurate now.

Weird?
