Trying to get an 87 Quantum GL5 Syncro Wagon running. Seems like its not getting fuel, is getting spark though. Its been sitting for 8 yrs, have been thinking about draining the tank, its old gas mixed with fresh right now. Got as far as the fuel distributer(?) but the lines where they attach are pretty rusted on top. Fuel pump and filter are OK. Any ideas?

If it's fuel injected, take the injectors and have them cleaned. Or just replace them if you can find a set cheap enough. They might just be clogged.

Before you mess with the injectors you should really think about pulling the gas tank and having it cleaned. A good shop will do this for you for like 50 bucks. That old gas is a likely souce of trouble, if not now then soon. Also, think about replacing the fuel lines. I have an '89 vanagon and the original rubber lines were pretty dry rotted and nobody likes an engine fire. After you have a clean tank, good lines, and a fresh fuel filter it should run. If there's still trouble look again at the pump. And remember, like my dad says, "This is part of the joy of owning a museum piece."

Thanks for the responses. I'll look into the things you guys mentioned. I've located a used fuel distributer in case the lines don't come off.

Well, this thing is getting parted out and going to the graveyard soon, FI parts too expensive for me right now, plus theres a chance the heads warped. If anyone needs anything, various new and used (engine, syncro, body/trim) parts sitting in a box, let me know. My buddy wants to keep the rear end (its actually his car). Or if anyone around Chi wants it, its in Glenview.
