All along I've planned on painting this bay....All the seals are shot and need to be replaced, there's a bit of surface rust here and there that needs to be attended to. There are also some dents that bug me that I'd like to have fixed. And two small sections where a repair was repainted.

However, on more than one occasion I've had folks encourage me to roll it as is...

So what do you guys think? If it were your bay....would you repaint it OG or buff it and roll it.???

it would be harder to roll than a split bus,in my opinion, but i would roll it as is.

im probably in the minority here, but i say paint it. nothing looks better then a nice shiny dub.

Paint it.

Patina is rust, that's all.

That' already looks better than planty of others I've seen...you only have original paint once...

I would paint it..................but then again i am partial to paint.

If you can afford to do it right, then paint it. Just paint it the original color.

Paint it. If there is rust forming I would rather address that then have original paint. Fix the rust, get new seals, paint it up...

Saw you driving in Albany one morning, i say leave it, looks good OG

Id sell it if it were mine and buy a split.

Paint it......................nothing rare with that paint. If it were a "split" I might leave it alone though.

No better time to paint then when you are replacing the seals. That way you don't get the new/old paint line. What year is your bus? Was it difficult to convert to wide-5 and to lower? I have owned a few split buses, but they are getting pretty expensive. i was thinking of getting a 71 and doing something similar to what you've done. That is probably one of a few bays i've seen that i like. Looks better than any split i've owned. Goes to show you that i've only owned shitty splitty's. :D

Early bays were still wide-5, up to 71 I think?

I would repair the areas that have rust and do some touch up with matching paint, (those paintless dent guys can work wonders if they can get to the back of the panel for your dings and dents) Put new rubber in and roll it as is, IMO.

Wiggy Wed Nov 29, 2006 7:14 pm

Leave it OG.

mike n kimmie Wed Nov 29, 2006 7:33 pm

leave it and spend the "paint"money on mechanical upgrades

Cool Bay! I would NOT paint that bus. You can find an ugly one to paint. Early original bays are cool.
