does anybody know how to remove a 73 fasty rear apron? I've been looking at it for a while and just cant seem to figure out how to get the dang thing out! I need to fix it so my back trunk will actually close and open. Plus, anybody know the best do-it-yourself way to fix a dented and slightly rusted dent on a fasty with the stock baby blue paint job?

| Mark, Removing the rear apron is an extremely time consuming project. You will need a tool to drill out the many spot-welds located around its perimeter. After removing the rear fenders, you can see a portion of them. Through cleaning is necessary all they way around the apron, to find them all. Its not a hard job, but it becomes somewhat tiresome drilling out all those welds. VW really put this piece of sheetmetal in there! After you get it out, its a good idea to clean and paint the interior of the air box, as VW did not. Reinstallation requires a mig welder and a fair amount of skill using it. |

Do you Know exactly what type of tool it is that I would need for removal? or is it just a regular household tool?

Spot-weld removers are available at most larger parts houses, (Pep Boys, Autozone, NAPA etc.) You can also purchase one on-line from the Eastwood Company,(www.eastwoodcompany.com). They cost under $20.00. Trying to drill out spot-welds without one is pretty difficult and does a poor job. |
