well here is my 55 that we have had for the past 10 years.
it sat in storage for about 4 of those years then last few in our garage at home.
last year we decided lets finally get going on it.
plans for it are pretty much just like a GFK car narrowed beam, lowered mags (probably not Fuchs though)
so here is a pic from the day we bought it.
body off
nasty pan
blasted pan
i run a powder coating shop and almost everyone goes with some sort of black for their pans.
i opted for a nickel colour with a clear turned out well,on a side not i replaced one pan half and had i known they were different o would have tried to fix mine.
powder coated my trans and all components and cad plated all inner brake parts (rear type three brakes)
narrowed front beam and wide five disk
a rolling pan

the trans i powder coated in a grey sandtex finish (feels like sand paper)
it is a matt colour but i would not do it again it will be damn near impossible to clean when i need to because of the rough finish.in hindsight i would have done it just in a smooth grey probably
i upload pics on how the body is comming

Rich the body is going Iceland Green, the original colour.
the body is pretty much rust free but banged up pretty bad.
Some may have seen Darren Dilly's 55 at the classic this year, the same body and paint guy is doing mine so i feel it is in good hands
on it's way to the blasters
back and in etch primer (borrowed some brms from a friend to see what i think i'm actually leaning towards chromed ones but that is still up in the air)
you can get a better idea on the body from the sides on how banged up it is.
the heater channels are super solid but the bottoms had some pinholing in them so we decided to replace them.
both of the clips needed replacing this is the front one being pieced together
this is fitting the rear apron and fenders alligning the egg taillights
both the front and the back are still not tacked together everything is still being lined up.
that brings me upto date on where we are on the car.i think another couple of weeks and i will bring the car home and fit everything before paint.
for the most part i have all the pieces cleaned and ready to go when the car is painted.i'll update again when i get some more progress |

the blasted pan in the pic is before i replaced it.
if you look close you can see a tear (not rust) back where the battery goes, and the pinholes were up by the passenger foot area.
thanks for the words guys

| Do you have any more pics of the work you did to the front quarters? What did you cut, save, rework? |

i don't have ton of pics from the front.i will say that my body guy said he could straighten it but would be better with another front clip.on short notice i found one but after blasting only the drivers side was really worth using.he dissasembled the whole front end so basically i was left with two flimsy side pieces.then he cut the drivers side out
the other pics above show how the front apron was grafted together to make a decent one.he was then able to straighten the sides with evrything apart.
the spare tire well was put in next
he has actually started body work on the inside before putting it back together (said it's easy for him to work with it open)
hope that helps alittle

Nice work!
I'm in the middle of a front clip job on my 57. I always like seeing other people's work so I have some good references.
Keep the pics coming |

well it has been a little bit since the last update,so here it goes.
this is the back end pieced together but not fully done yet.we are using after market fenders and the body lines don't line up with the apron great.here is a shot of one side fixed and the other ready to be fixed, then a close up of how it is lining up.
the next two are just little bits of putty here and there it may look like alot but it is really quite thin.
and lastly are working semaphores:)
all i can say is the main parts are over our body guy Stephan has spent alot of time just making sure the body lines are right.were the car was hit in the rear proved to be a big pain just getting the decklid to line up right,in the end i would have been better starting off with a different lid.oh well live and learn.
there are a few small bits left to do then the car will get a spray putty on all the flat panels and will be all mostly blocked off to get it nice and straight.
that should be happening next week so we are close to getting it home
then the mock up and send it back for final blocking and paint
