Is this really the value? I know I've got one laying around somewhere, must dig it up then!

I don't know...better ask someone who doesn't have one.

The '58 badge is reproed by Jerry in Australia...I don't think anyone would spot the difference: http://www.karmannghia.com.au/content/part_horn_badge.html

I would take the shiny Australian one before the cloudy original that costs $150 more

Ghia Quarter Windows Price: 110
Quote: This is a pair of Ghia quarter pop out windows in very good condition. No scratches. I do not accept trades. Will accept cash payments & U.S. postal money order. You pay for shipment.

I've thrown out better looking windows that had knobs not nearly and gnarly as the ones in this ad.

Guess who paid  . Although I needed one and had been looking for one. It was the one piece I needed to finish the wheel. When the part you need comes up some time you have to bite the bullet :? .

Scott, if it makes you feel any better, I originally had it listed at $225 when it was mentioned here. I lowered it accordingly but I figured I had to start it somewhere.

My ad that was listed and sold to Scott was not cloudy but in amazing condition and truly correct for a late 58 or 59 model. The porcelain and plastic one are not interchangeable and to the trained eye, you would know which is correct.

Believe me I am not complaining, I actually think the price was correct and more than fair. If you had 2 I would have bought them. I have absolutely no problem paying for quality parts which make a good restoration great. That horn button emblem is one of the hardest thing to find for the 59. I am great full to have it after searching for it for ,and in such good condition. My statement was only pointing out how some parts are worth every penny in some peoples eyes.

Well, it IS the Rodbuster... never been one like it, probably never be another.

For the amount of work and detail that went into it, yes. It's a well engineered work of art that happens to resemble a Ghia, IMHO.

:-k A little off the subject but still a thought to consider.

A price be high or low is determined by the two people involved.

After all it's a sellers/buyers mkt in either case.

Decades ago my dad was restoring a 1926 Model T chassis on up.

When at my house told him of a Antique swap meet close by (Pomona Swap Meet in it's hey day with about 10 people selling). Paid the .25 cents per person to enter for my dad and myself and while looking dad picked up a item ...looked at it for a couple of mins and asked "what do you want for this thing"?. Answer..."50 cents". Dad said he would take it and I reached in my pocket and paid the .50 cents.

Walking away dad said to me..."do you know what this is"? I replied "No". Dad said " this is the front grease cap for the front wheel on the 26 T and I would have paid $5.00 for it".

So you see price will vary on the need and availability of an item be it small or large as in this case an Auto.

Damn, if rear glass is selling for this, I could have retired on all the ones I recently pitched.

Not trying to bash any vendor here, but seriously?
Ghia pan sets are now $680 + shipping?

We have used this product before and no big complaints.
Now I wish we would've stockpiled some in a stash.

I doubt they're NOS. They would have removed the cracked lenses and had them rechromed. You see 60+ bezels for sale all the time.
Both types are a unusable!

Loren Sat Nov 12, 2011 3:22 pm

Actually, those are extremely rare and they are believed to be the only 58-59 NOS examples to have survived, all other rings were fitted with lenses. Unfortunately, they aren't of much use since you can really use them. He would be lucky to give these away.

I actually sold some parts to a guy who bought these from the seller when they were listed as NOS 56-57 rings. Luckily, I was able to see the rings before he stashed them away for his restoration and he was able to get his money back (wouldn't that suck to pay top dollar for these rings, stash them for a few years until you are ready to use them and find they won't fit your lenses!).

I can't count the number of people who try to pawn off 58-59 rings as 56-57 rings. As I like to say, "if there's a raised ridge on the back they're not worth jack."

I love this ad: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1268127

1957 karmann ghia for sale, was a pelican red/black car. Someone before me looked to have sandblasted about 90 percent of the car, and ran out of primer half way through. I have all the glass except the windshield. Doors inside are complete. Someone cut off the rear apron, I don't have it, the rest of the engine bay is in great shape as is the trunk. uncut dash, solid pans. The nose is solid though it looks like the center rib has been hammered and ground down for the smoothed look, emblem pedistal and a small bit of the rib is left. I have the door strikers for it, decklid hinges, decklid light bracket, quarter window assemblies, however i do not have the quarter window to door window separator pieces. this is a very solid car. i would keep it but i have too many irons in the fire, my loss your gain $2400 OBO

uncut dash? What about the extra hole above the radio hole and the cuts in the radio hole?

solid pans? I bet there is a ton of rust under those tar boards!

Yikes, smoothed out nose ridge! Heck of a deal for $2400 obo

70 140 Sun Feb 26, 2012 6:42 am

I was looking at that ^^ car yesterday thinking, that is not a deal.

Same goes for this pair. I can't see the asking price: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1267974
