hi all, new to the site and the VW scene. The welcome I've received is unreal.
Thought you might like to see my van, and hopefully ask for help!
What you see is a 1966 slider import from Greece. I brought (Lizzie) the van thinking that that was where she originated, but on rubbing her back to her Dove Blue I discovered german signwriting. Here starts my first request for help. Does anyone know how and where I can find Lizzies' original livery? I've searched through countless photos on the net and have only come close, but no cigar.
At the mo Lizzie is fitted with a 1300cc and, as I understand, is original throughout. I plan to throw on a new coat of dove blue and resign the van, to hopefully restore her to her former glory.
The interior................as yet undecided! Wheels? For Lizzies' ride height.... I'm thinking, maybe rake?
Let me know ya thoughts, and any help would be greatfully received.
I'll update the photos as and when I make progress.

hey all, just a update to let you know my slow progress.

You'll have to forgive me for the shakey image, I was abit cold.
As you can imagine, or have witness first hand the writing is fickle. I have opted to use 600 grit to rub the blue down around the letters, hoping that this leaves them behind. Patience! A must have.

Lizzies' birth tag

Oh well! :'(

Look what I've found ;D, any idea how I can rub it back and leave the wording behind? Or is this something easy to get hold of?

Hi all, hope every one had a wicked X-mas, and going to have a memorable New Year.

Been scanning the net over the X-mas period and have found some interesting info about the possible origins of 'Lizzie'.

OK, starting with the first word on the side 'ELEKTRIC', there was a radio manufactured by Miessner called Electrik. And the word underneath 'FERNSEH' means T.V. Still no concrete leads! But does it ring any bells?

There was, can't find any concrete info to say there still is, a company called Fernseh AG established in 1929, after the second world war 'Bosch' acquired full ownership and the company became Fernseh GmbH.

This is where the leads disappear. Anyone that can help would be forever in my debt. Please please, anything is better than nothing!

Very nice. What did you say you were using to get the old paint off? Just 600 grit and a sander?

Yeah, just using 600 and 400 grit wet + dry paper and an electric sander with 120 grit sand paper. It's a case of finding a happy medium between taking the red paint off and leaving the dove blue and signwriting, the main word in all of this is TRYING to find a happy medium
So that I can hopefully get all the sign writing and discover more about the bus's first role I've decided to try and colour sand the other side. Hoping that this will thin the red paint enough and make the signwriting visible before I take any of it off. Fingers crossed!
