The 1st car I ever wanted was a VW bug. When I was 16 I got a 75 bug and kept it until about a year and a half ago. Once sold, I missed not having it. So, within the last few months I've been doing a lot of thinking, which turned into a lot of looking, which turned into owning a 66 VW bug. It's not perfect.....but it's nice.

Here's a few pics (if it works...)

Looking quite nice there where are you located?

nice... you're lucky, not everyone can find bugs that are that clean.
Have fun driving it :)

Very nice, complete car!!! Congrats. Everything looks original except the running boards and seat belts (no big deal). If you were looking for complete '66 to restore, you hit the jackpot! 8)

Thanks for the compliments. :D

gt1953...sorry, I updated my profile. I'm in Woodstock, AL.

KantDriveFast....what should the running boards look like? The ones on the car are in really good shape, but if their not original....I may want to change them out. I know the seat belts aren't original...but I think I got the originals in a box when I got the car.

A little history on the car from what I understand.....The original owner sold the car to the PO in 1977. The PO had it painted in 1994 and drove it until the end of 1995 before storing it in a garage. He periodically started the car but didn't drive it. It was taken out of storage twice in that time to get it ready for his kids to drive...but they decided they didn't want a VW :( (their loss...my gain :D ). PO put a few chrome pieces on the engine (breather, oil cap, dipstick, etc.), but kept the original stuff in boxes that I got with the car. In those same boxes were the 6V items that were taken off when he converted it to 12V. In the glove box is the original's owners manual, maintenance records from the original owner, and some old receipts for misc. items in the early to mid 70's.

Car has air conditioning but it's not hooked up. Compressor and condensor were removed from the car before the PO bought it in 1977. But that's a project for another day.

Beautiful ! Even has the proper interior still ! Please don't tell me you are going to slam it or do some other indecent things to it !

You know it's funny....when I started my search for a VW, I first thought I would fix one up with wheels, lowered, bigger engine......but now that I found this one, I find it hard to think about altering it.

if you want to "pimp" a bug, get another less original bug. keep this one as is. its a sweet car

beetleluvr Tue Dec 19, 2006 4:52 pm

Have to agree with Blue Baron........keep this sweet VW as it is. OG is where it is at.

sled Tue Dec 19, 2006 5:31 pm

here is my bug, which used to be OG if you want to call it that. all i know is original lacquer is a pain to maintain..but i do. also still rockin the 1300 although i admit shes 12 volt.

ill be the devils advocate here and say slam it ;)

66's came with both wide and thin chrome trim running boards.

but either way get some stock painted steelies on there.

this is before i really lowered it, and at a show so its freshly buffed.

red interior is sweet man, good buy!!!

oh and i dont think lowering and power enhancing bugs is "pimping" unless you think thats at all related to that MTV show.

all in good fun

Does the back wheel tilt help with cornering?

The running board trim should be the wider style like the blue car above. If you still have the original seat belts, you are way ahead...nice score dude!

It's a nice car, good luck with it.

As far as "slamming" I just don't get it. My eyeballs may never get used to the sight...but to each his or her own.

In any event, if you customize it keep in mind that whatever you do may effect the resale value and attractiveness to prospective buyers depending on where you live. It may pay to keep the old parts to put back or undo what you did. Unless of course you plan on keeping the car forever. Custom cars are a very personal statement and what is very attractive to one person may look like a pos to another.
