I recently purchased a 1974 Super, and in my attempts to gather as much information as possible in regard to customization and restoration, I find there is very little in terms of brick and mortar VW places in Colorado. I can't even locate an air-cooled club outside of a Bus club up in Boulder.

Despite, I would like to know if anyone out there is from the Denver area and if they know of any brick and mortar shops, salvage yards, or general Beetle fanatics I can correspond with (locally. I have found plenty of online forums, but some discussions do not translate well online). Specifically I would like to find a good paint and body place as well as someone to assist with upholstery.

When I begin the restore I will post as many pics as possible.

I am in Denver which I figured being a city of more than a few thousand people would actually have a decent VW contingency.

That's what you'd think. But sadly it's not the case....

There's a nice club in the Colorado Springs area that has cruises and meets. But nothing up in the northern part of Colorado.

As John says, there is the very active Pikes Peak VW Club in COS:

http://www.ppvwc.net/

Then there is the Rocky Mountain Aircooled Club:

And I think Bart Dunn is involved with a club up in Boulder... I think it's the Boulder Air-Suckers. Something like that.

You think Denver is sparse, I live in Aspen. I see four, yes, four aircooled Beetles here regularly, and know one other owner.

My daughter and I just spent the last year restoring a '74' Super pretty much from the ground up. Get on www.ppvwc.net and you'll get alot of great advise and help. We did most of the work ourselves so we could probably point you in the right direction on alot of issues. NuVintage was our best contact for everything. Get to know them, they're great. Things have kind of slowed down with the weather and all but next time we have a gathering if you could make it down it would be great to meet you.

I too, just purchased a '74 super bug recently and, have had great success getting parts and service through NuVintage. They seem like good people and know what their talking about. I also, wish there was a club up here in the northern part of CO. I guess will keep our fingers crossed.

From the first post: "I can't even locate an air-cooled club outside of a Bus club up in Boulder."

There's Volkswagon Enthusiasts of Colorado based in Denver. They produce the Volkswagon on the Green car show each year.

www.vwec.org

They have an active membership, they do clinics on body, engine etc throughout the year.

I'll be in Denver in two weeks! I'm moving from Dallas, TX and can't wait. I just bought my 72 Super. I figured I couldn't leave this rust free state without my dream car so finally got one. Thanks for the information everyone has posted so far, I'd been searching for VW shops, etc. and hadn't found much.

whatever happened to that vw shop that was in wheat ridge on Old Wadsworth? Cool Stuff I think was the name.. I just remembered that place, but haven't seen it mentioned or in the phone book.. Welcome to Denver by the way

Matt Wilson Mon Aug 18, 2008 3:33 pm

Originally it was Randy's Stuff, then was sold and called Cool Stuff, then was sold again and fell apart. I think it was a motorcycle shop last time I drove by there.

Eric at Uber Auto Werks worked for Randy's from what I understand.

Hey I would love to join if we start a club. I know I have seen 5-10 bugs in Fort Collins area, but I am getting less and less sightings. If anyone would like free diagnostics or help in Fort Collins area, feel free to drop me a line.
