| Hi, Maybe someone here can help, I am usually on the Vanagon forum cause thats what I sometimes drive, but the ? is that my daughter has this ' 96 GTI 2.0 Automatic and the transmission functions just fine after her mothers boyfriend patched the hole in it (we are divorced) but it makes a howling noise at about 45MPH and there was nasty stuff in the transmission oil when he drained it,, metal filings etc. Now they want to replace the transaxle and I need to know what years will fit. Too bad this happened now,,, a coupla weeks ago I had this really nice Passat VR6 5 Spd. that I think we could have adapted. But it was sold for next to nothing,,,,,,,,,ah well,, luck, any ideas as to what trans (years, automatic) I should look for Thanks,,, Peace,,,Moosie :bus_blue: |

go to www.vwvortex.com
You need to get the trans code off of the top of the bell housing and maybe the transmission module code. The trans module is located under the back seat on the driver's side. You need to match the trans, not the years.
These auto trans can be a headache, when you replace it make sure you keep up with the VW maintenance recommendations. Change the fluid and filter every 30K, all the auto trans I've seen gone bad were not properly serviced. |
