Just for fun

For the real purists - knowledgeable TIII owner

Name this part + year of use

I know what it is - do you know :)

It looks like a breather boot for the crankcase breather, but is bent.
Something to let liquid out, but not air back in.

Indeed - what year ?

You have the advantage on me sir. Since the USA didn't offically get the T-3 until 1966, the early ones were not seen as often until someone else had had their hands on them and removed 'unnecessary" parts.

If I only had my parts book! Damn I usaly get these. So it is a case breather rubber deal like russ said then. My year guess would have to be like 61-62 when VW coulnt decide how to plumb it all??

Really? I've never seen that one before. The 1961 workshop manual doesn't mention it. A later copy I have says that other boot we're familiar with was introduced in 6/63.

EverettB Sun Jan 07, 2007 6:12 pm

My '63 doesn't have a downward pipe to mount a seal on.

I guess it's for the breather outlet that travels to the air cleaner?

BerT3 Oil breather spring?

notchboy Wed Jan 24, 2007 3:53 pm

Spring for the front or rear lock post for the hoods?

nodrenim Wed Jan 24, 2007 6:29 pm

Just might be a noise eliminator that goes inside the dust caps on the front wheels to help eliminate static on the radio.
