yeah i love to skate around with 1/16 " on the road, makes for a sweet ride

actually with my 165's i have full tread on the road...the only way the tread would stay square (small contact patch) is if you had a lo pro tire at full pressure.

no you don't...i don't even have "full" tread width on the road with my lowered "IRS" rear, WITH lower profile tires...

Have you seen his car?

8-step process... or close to it. :) It requires two jacks, ramps, and a couple boards.

sled Tue Jan 09, 2007 8:58 pm

ok sorry you must have been over and seen my car then havent you.

i said that with low pros you have much less chance of having full tread contact...with a taller sidewall it can flex much more and provide more contact.

Hobbes Tue Jan 09, 2007 9:54 pm

Yeah, I've got 195/50s on the rear of mine, and you can stick half a finger under the tread.... so yeah, it's pretty bad with low-pros.

I used to have 165s, and most of the tread was on the road, so long as I lowered the tire pressure... and these tires are designed to hold like 800lbs+ apiece at full pressure, so its' actually good to lower the pressure some...

So they can hold less than 800lbs? Sounds safe to me.

HOWS THE RIDE????? i no the answer but i fig i would ask. i like it alot. i just narrowed my beam 4" and dropped the back. but i want it tuckin like a motor home like yours. let me now how bad is it.( the ride)

sled Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:01 am

i think youre talking to hobbes...but ill answer, im not quite that low, but damn close. the ride is bouncy, thats all there is to it. before the suspension gets a chance to do anything youve hit the ground.

clarks just mad he knows hes no where near the lowest. ;)

Spazz Wed Jan 10, 2007 1:32 am

If you installed custom shock toweres do think it would help at all? or since you travel is like what 1/8th that yor suspension no matter is going to bounce of the ground? Makes me want a beetle so bad but i do like my baja

this is the lowest one i've seen.......

I've said it before about this ride:
It should be taken of the public road!
This is disaster waiting to happen.

If you like to live on the edge go mountain climbing or
whatever.
Driving this POS puts other people in danger too.

sled Wed Jan 10, 2007 9:31 am

no shocks dont help at all, i wouldnt run shocks on anything that is lower than 2 inches off the ground (beam)

i think it should be on the road.

so now its 50-50

some people as drivers are more dangerous than this beam.

Erik G Wed Jan 10, 2007 10:26 am

that beam is retarded, same goes for the owner if it's actually driven like that. I have done my share of stupid things, but that takes the cake. I would love to see what the car looks like when the beam fails, and it will. some drivers are more dangerous, yes, but that is also retarded logic, for that matter I might as well drink and drive, because someone out there is is more drunk and driving

I think me and Hobbes are down about the same up front, but he's got me in the back definately.

And remember kids..

1. Clarkdude... My car only weighs about 1500lbs. That means that TWO tires at full pressure could hold my car safely.. but I've got 4... which means, each rear tire only has to handle about 500-600lbs... so you don't need full PSI to safely handle the weight... therefore, fully inflating the tire would actually be OVERINFLATING. Setting the PSI a little lower means that the tire will sit properly on the road given the weight on it.

2. I don't care if my beam looks unsafe. There are bigger issues on the road, like women talking on cell phones, and old people. But I'm not here to gripe. after daily driving for a year and a half with that beam, all that happens is I hit lips on the road and it jars me... then I keep right on truckin'... and even if it does break, oh well. I guess I hit someone in my half-ton Volkswagen and get torn to shreds while their car takes a minor dent. Whoops.

Long story short: You're just no fun. Live a little.

Well really, I could care less. I've got my car how I like it, and I'm driving it. Fun times for everyone. Around here, only ONCE has someone complained about my car... and it was a drunken hick couple saying my back wheels were going to fall off.

Hobbes Wed Jan 10, 2007 1:16 pm

Serious as a 12 car pileup. But that's ok. You don't have to like me. Half of the VW community hates me for my beam... but that's not what's important.
