You crack me up, sir. :P

But whatever. No need to turn this into an argument. Nobody will win.

I find your lack of care for anyone other than yourself amusing. I truley hope that no one including your self is injured when the beam breaks

Really, you don't have to call me "sir".
I'm just one of those old people that don't know how to drive.

i said that with low pros you have much less chance of having full tread contact...with a taller sidewall it can flex much more and provide more contact.

i don't have to see your car....and the "1/16" " was a joke... you may have rubber *touching* the road, but you don't have full contact...you can have as much rubber *touching* the road as you can find, but without the weight of the car on it, it provides no traction...the ONLY reason the tire is even touching on the outer edge is due to the deformation that happens on the inside part that does have weight on it... but you will have pretty good weight distribution on the "contact patch" when cornering hard...but on a lowered car that would be right before the suspension "tucks"

that low if it goes byby he not going to even notice till he goes to turn

actually "bags" are for those that have been there and done that....a lowered vw rides horribly and what most consider "great handling/handles like a gokart" is actually dangerous....suspension travel is what makes great handling...lowered vw's don't have suspension travel....any front beam lowered rides like shit....been doing it for nearly 20 years....had i KNOWN how well a bagged vw can ride, i'd have switched YEARS ago....get the looks you want and a good ride...what a concept....and *I* really *can* "go anywhere I want" speedbumps, raised entrances, manhole covers, etc don't scare me nor do i have to spend more time watching the road surface than actually watching traffic.....but i guess, i'm getting "old"...

Erik G Wed Jan 10, 2007 2:37 pm

well, you have the money for bags too which obviously these guys dont. A narrowed beam with drop spindles will get you plenty low with lo dough, will ride decent, and be safe. but I guess you only do that when you somewhat care about you car, your passengers, and the other 6.5 billion on earth...

Perhaps, but it's just taste. I don't roll my car as low as it is because it's PRACTICAL... I do it because I just LIKE it. It's also just different, I like the feeling of driving around low all the time, and just DEALING with obstacles. I feel almost like adjustable suspension is 'cheating' in a sense... it's not really a low car, it just can be if you feel like it.... like half these guys gloat about their car being on the ground... yeah, when it's parked... and when it's time to drive, jack it up 4 inches and make sure you don't scrape... it's just not the same. I like driving 1/4" off the ground all the time, it's interesting. It's fun. There's no point in me getting air bags, because they'd always be empty.

I care a lot about my car, myself, and others. I'm just not a paranoid weirdo who freaks out over this shit. I'm quite confident that if I go drive to the north side right now, I'm not going to kill everyone on earth.

And I DO have money for bags, FYI. I don't WANT them.

ALSO: Ride isn't as big of a deal when you don't drive like a maniac.

i see your point...i used to be "you" in a sense...only thing is, back then it was basically hydraulics that were the "alternative"....i rolled low(actually raked) for years....loved it too....but it did have its drawbacks, which i know you know(even bent a framehead before)...i have my alignment set at about two inches of ground clearance...that is my ride height"....i can cruise all the way down(and do) but even with bags when you are bottomed out you have shitty/bouncy ride....and i throw sparks...my beam would looklike yours if i rode down... I'm all about "to each his own"..... since germanpride doesn't like bags, he claims they are for girls.... but i won't bother with the "rumor" about red cars... and i LOVE the fact that i can raise the suspension at the push of a button...i also love the fact that i can ride with a redneck rake to the car if i want....what i don't love is dragging a hole in my nice ceramic coated exhaust because i had somewhere i needed to go, but there was an obstacle...(i have a really bad flatspot in my exhaust already and it is a turbo header with plenty of clearance...but coming out of a gas station i didn't raise up far enough....now i have a very weakspot in the pipe...and exhaust leaks suck in a turbo car...
if all the roads in your area are like the ones in the video, then you have way better roads than we do....

Oh we have some shitty roads. I've got a merged header/stinger, and I've scraped about half an inch into them.... holes occurred. But I patch them occasionally. That's why I don't prettify my car's underparts to begin with... because I plan on messing them up to a mild degree.

money wasn't as much as you'd think for a full air ride suspension....i based mine off of airkeld's system....only i used different air shocks up front(longer for more travel)....i narrowed my beam, modified the shock towers(layed them inward and extended them...took two sets of stock BJ shock towers, so they look "stock"), bought dropped spindles and all the components myself...no kit....same amount of work as installing a "kit" but cost me half as much, and at half the price i have an 8 valve system.... i lowered the "no buck" way for all those years...cut/twist/weld... not because i didn't have money, but because that is the way i always did it....

As far as safe goes,Ever drove a balljoint car and have a balljoint let loose.Scares the heck out of you but nothing that's not manageable,The only thing I hate when driving my car is when I hit them reflectors.I had a cop follow me the other day,Changed lanes and took out 2 reflectors. He pulled up beside us and gave us the thumbs up,And he was one of them Old cops.Low,high, fast, slow, pretty, ugly Just Roll It .

Well yeah, most likely if my shit broke, I'd fall 1/4" and skid to a halt... even if I did jet off in a random direction... first curb/bump/stick on the road would slow me.

but, but, but....the header was the prettiest part of my car....nothing really pretty about my fatchick....

it sure sits LOW with the bags though...doesn't it?

I'm probably NOT, but it's nice to think positively.

i never get why all these people who think slamming bugs is stupid CONTINUE to looks at topics clearly about really low vehicles.

dont comment if you arent going to say worthwhile reading...obviously what you say will in no way change or alter the ride height of hobbes' vehicle.

so take your 4x4 height fat chick and say its a rare classic.

actually i just think the samba sucks.

my car lays the front beam and rear solid mount on the ground....you wouldn't know if it had flat tires....don't envy, it's a terrible thing
