| The blue one is not a super beetle, and it is most likely a 68-70 because there is no cresent vent behind the rear windows |

| its hard to tell from the angle if it has the indent or not, couldn't it be a euro 68-70? is that the only way to tell? |

I can see the indent?
But I was more going off the big 72 onwards back window
There's also a rear shot of the same car floating around the interwebz, trust me its a 72 or 73 1200 unless a whole heap of other stuffs been changed too. |

Sorry Joel, but Vugbug86 is the winner.
It's a dutch car, and if you zoom in, you can read the dutch licenseplate: AH-94-00
The dutch DMV (called RDW) has a website on which you can check a license plate.
Follow this link, and fill in "AH9400" in the yellow box: Link to RDW site , and then click on the "Historie" (=History) tab.
It shows that the car is from 18th of february 1969 (date in european format: 18-02-1969). See the date behind "Datum eerste toelating", which is the build date.
The "AH" in the license plate also tells us that this car was imported later into the Netherlands.
Over here, you can apply for an oldtimer licenseplate when importing, if your car is old enough. The new dutch license plates are yellow, but most people don't like that on an old car, so you can request an oldtimer licenseplate, which is dark blue.
For these cases they use special ranges, of which the "AH" range is one of them.
The RDW website also confirms this car was imported into the Netherlands, the last date is the date it was first registered in the Netherlands.
The middle date is the date the car last changed owner.
This tells us the guy who imported it (on 18th of september 2001), still owns it! These last two dates are the same.
He now owns it for 11 years.
OK, I'll stop the boring dutch license plate regulations lesson now... |

I'd say you're right cos here is a rear shot of the same car and it definitely has the big 72 onwards back window and blank crescent vents
I can also see from this side it has the non cable open fuel door so it's 73 1200 (well body anyway)

Only on 69-72.
That little cable must have really broken the bank cos they dropped it again in 73 and offered a locking cap as an option instead  |

The blue bug is a 1200 from 1973, and is put on a irs pan from 1969 in the year 2001. I own this car since 1993!
Unfortunately the car has been damaged in my garage and the front has to be repainted, didn't have the time and the motivation yet, but gone get started again soon..... |
