View original topic: Porsche 914 running on 3 cylenders???

I have a '74 porsche 914 with the 1.8L carburated engine. The car was running really slow, so i pulled off the valve cover, and discovered that the intake valve on cylender #1 had about an 1/8 inch of play between the rocker arm. i adjusted it, ran the engine for a while (it ran stronger for a couple of minutes) then i took it apart again and the play was still 1/8th inch.

I thought this could be a bent pushrod so i bought a new one, and it turns out that the new pushrod was THICKER and longer than the one currently in the engine, also the one in the engine was perfectly fine!

could this mean that the car has hydraulic lifters and one of them isn't getting enough oil pressure??? i only owned this car for a couple of months and have no clue as to what the internals are.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you
