Hey guys, i just rebuilt the motor for my woods buggy and found out that the 30 PICT 3 carb that was on it was junk so i was wondering....in your experience what would be the best stock VW carb to put on this motor. I use this buggy for crawling in the woods mostly but i want it to have good power because we get into the mud quite a bit too. One idea i had was to slot the bolt holes on my manifold so that i could run a 34 PICT 3 but i didnt know if that would cause running problems having a bigger carb. Ive searched and read lots and lots of posts and everyone seems to think the older 30 PICT 1 would be the best, any thoughts?

With single port heads it sort of doesnt matter. (the stock manifolds don't flow that much air). With that being said I would use a 30/31 pict if you plan to keep the heads single port.....but if one day you want to move up to dual port heads then get the 34.... You will have to play with both of them to get them to purr on your motor. Both carbs are about the same price....

I have a German Solex 30 PICT 2 that came stock on my 69. I really like this carb and it's very low maintanence. The 30 pict 1 is also very popular. I would stay away from the 34 for a single port.

The H30/31PICT is a good carb for a SP, better than a 34PICT-3.

Good point, you can make either carb work. That's why I reccomended the 30/31 if he wants to keep it SP. If he was planning on going DP, then he might as well buy the 34 now.

Thanks for the help guys. Just curious, what makes the 30/31 better than the other SP carbs? Any good websites with info on these carbs?
