View original topic: rusted out 356 shell at wreckers yard

The local yard doesn't get 356s very often maybe 1 every 2 years. They got this shell in last week. Had a few good parts on it , some transaxles some brake parts .. It was late in the day went back the next day it had already been squished...they didn't look inside-- sigh --I hate it when parts are lost .

Looks like, from the era of Porsche that used those gauges, the brakes, etc. would have been a bolt-on to your ragtop, Lloyd... bummer.

I just got a bullet fender out of our local wrecking yard, got it out of the wrecked Nissan JUST before it went to the crusher, it was on the forklift, and I spied the bullet fender sticking out of the door opening...

Hey!

Lloyd-I saw it too, but in full daylight. All the AL and Mag parts looked like they had been underwater for a while, which bummed me out because I've been looking for the brakes for a back burner project. The brake drums had big chunks crusting off.

Dave : Oval front fender ? E-mail me IF your looking for a home for it.. melvelle : not too much goes home with me from there BUT there were parts on that 356 that could of been passed on to others now gone forever..sniff sniff . IF you ever see a Burgundy Vanagon Westfalia out in front (hopefully filled with dogs not car parts ) that's me...

Hey!

It was just a chance thing I was in the yard that day, nearly a month ago.

Similarly, if you see a Beige/Brown 71 Kombi, that's me in action. I expect to be able to have time to play with VWs after about April 15.

...and you never know when you'll see a noisy Polar Silver Oval sunroof blazing thru Humboldt... it does know the way South, it just doesn't get that way too often.

Nice find on the 356, way too sad that all of those little bits and pieces were lost.

I just picked up this one, mostly for just a few little pieces. but also 'cause it would have bothered me to see it gone and the price was perfect.
