I'm thinking of taking a day off this week to do it. Junior and I are going to finish blocking it out this weekend so it should be ready to go...we'll see.

Trust me, i think your son needs to worry about his grades before he even thinks about that car. lol. oh wait, that's me! Yeah the car is beautiful! great work dad! Way cooler than the Z! :D

Color combo looks great, even though it is on a later car.
May the FAT be with you.

If that car is worthy of cutting up there is absolutely no hope for mine. I think that is more than salvageable. I'm thinking mine is technically a 74' as well. The title says 74'. But there car was manufactured in 73'. If you do part it out. Certainly let me know!

Ghoti Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:01 pm

I tried searching so forgive this question:

"Slang term for most air-cooled VWs that use 4-bolt wheels, such as 68 and newer Standard Beetles, Super Beetles, Bay Window Buses, 1970 and later Ghias, 1970 and later Type 3s, etc."

I'm sorry I didn't see that.

I own a fat chick!!! Nice!

Why do they call them that?

You know what fat chicks and mopeds have in common?

hpw Mon Dec 17, 2007 9:02 pm

don't let anyone catch you riding one in public?

Ghoti Mon Dec 17, 2007 9:05 pm

Pretty much...the version I heard was:

"They're both fun to ride, but you never want to be seen with one".

Can anyone tell me why late models are called fat chicks???

4-lug wheels
bigger bumpers
bigger rear lights
bigger front turn signals
more rounded body lines, especially on the Bug

OK...I'm not sure why 4-lug wheels matter, unless they changed at the same time.

I don't like my bumpers, either. I kicked around going to those flat things...but decided to go with a stock look.

Yes, the front turn signals are hideous. It's like a lighthouse on my fenders.

Rear lights on a 71 still aren't REAL bad. I do hate the ones with yellow in them.

Thanks for letting me know!!

Very impressive work, wonderful color combo! You're a talented guy. Did you let your son wave the paint gun at all for a learning experience? Pls show us photos of the finished car with all glass installed, lights on, polished bumpers and side trim pieces!

He did do some of the spot priming:

I'm still putting it back together, but here's a sneak peek:

Pretty personalized touches, Tom!

Great job, indeed!

I like the color combo.

~~~~ and with those reinforcements for the bumpers protruding, the KG looks like a James Bond machine.
Excellent work, Tom!
Fat chick or whatever you want to call it, your KG is one great looker!
I discovered this thread after it had been around for awhile and it amazed me how it went. First you were like, "Hmm I'll fix this spot", then "Hmm let's do over there" Soon it snowballed into a sweet car.
Congratulations on your son''s contributions, too. The experience is beneficial on so many levels. I also love those '74 only bumper tubes. They look like 50mm cannons.
