Is this the car?

Not that I am aware of.
I don't think they would let a kit car 550 spyder on the race track for Rennsport Reunion. |

I have never seen it before and I have attended the Historics at Monterey for thirty years. It has not shown up at any Porsche Parade I know of and has the "wrong" lights......bumpers, vents, mirrors, and badging. Not that all 550s were raced, but "RED" on a Porsche race car....... ????? They can put anything at the track, but did you see this car actually race? :?
I'm sure the car parked next to it is not a Porsche and didn't race either. :D |

I agree that I have never seen this car.(Not that I've seen everything) However, I did see it race in group 1, the Gmund class. It raced with RSK's, 550's, speedsters, a '51 coupe,...
I'm not saying it isn't a repop, but I did see this race on the track...
I'll look for a pic on track.
Maybe someone can comment on the car? Someone who might have raced against it? |

It's amazing that they left cars down there back then, only to be used as a chicken coupe. I wonder how many 550's are unaccounted for. Can't be very many. Maybe 002 is still running around down there as a dunn buggy. |

| Herrate took 550-02 to Guatemala after 1954 died and his Family preserved the car for many years some said that 550-02 is now in Venezuela. |

Here's my new baby!
I just drove her from San Diego to Phoenix and will have her delivered the rest of the way to Florida next week. Ran sweet the whole way, getting 20mpg. Has the original engine/trans along with original, dry undercarriage. The paint was done in the late 60s, early 70s, so it shows its age, but I feel comfortable with what's underneath :-)
I need to find some 16s and the original bee hive tail lights were replaced with later teardrops. Other than that and a few other details she's complete. According to the Kardex, the original color was a custom ordered "Dark Brown Metallic ". It's one of the 798 '53 model year coupes manufactured in '54, so it says 1954 on the VIN plate but has all the features of a '53.

Congratulations!
Can't wait to see it in person... We have a monthly breakfast on the first Saturday of every month in Jacksonville. You should drive it the 70+ miles to shoot the breeze.
Where did you find this coupe for sale?
Internet? Car trader? 356 Registry? friend of a friend?
Drive 'Em!

I noticed the same thing! Have you decided to go with black wheels? Maybe with some chrome trim rings? |

LOL. Yeah, I'm going with black wheels. Still waffling between blackwalls, whitewalls, and now, trim rings :-)
Got my '53 FL plate a few weeks ago and need to make a run to Tallahassee soon.... |

Were you able to find an Alachua county code tag?
Looking forward to seeing your '53 at a Florida Owners Group event.
