VW Vortex seems to have the forum market cornered on water-cooled VW's. I like the layout better here, though, and the Vanagon forum here is very helpful and entertaining.

Also, you can get some amazing deals on watercooled stuff in the classifieds on the Samba compared to other places.

I'd like to see the watercooled community expanded on the Samba. Yeah, I would love to see this happen too.

my mom had bugs till 82 then rabbits and golfs till 95 so I grew up on air and water also and own both now

Ok, I'll shamelessly show off:

My 81 Rabbit is my first watercooled VW (besides an ill-fated vanagon Westy)
and my first diesel...I must say I LOVE the 44-50 mpg I get, especially these days with gas prices being so high...and coming from the world of split window busses, that thing is CUSHY, and handles like a dream!
:)

I like all VeeDubs I've got a 1965 Bug with a 1970 flloorpan, a 1971 Baja, a 1977 Westy,a 1992 T4 & a 1989 Golf MK11.

These are all ongoing projects but I have owned many VW's before aircooled & watercooled the best of which have been a 1965 Beetle & a MK1 Golf Cab:-

Well I am a hardcore vintage aircooled guy (see my sig), but I have been driving watercooleds as DD for about 15 yrs now. My first ('85 cabrio) :

I took that car from 93k miles to 255k, pics on my DIY paint job at thebugshop.org.

I have since owned a '91 cab, a 99.5 Jetta (sold it yesterday) and will pick up my new '04 Jetta GLS Wed.....

I think that is so funny! The watercooled equal to a an oval bug. Please! I think that was actually the Dasher.

Who needs respect?? Just enjoy the cars! And YES, Lets Race!

delibessleep Wed Apr 30, 2008 6:20 pm

I've owned...damn...about 25 VWs...both AC and WC. Currently have 5. I drive the ACs, wife gets the 2006 passat. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

I think WC folks are looking for different things in their cars than the AC folks, like a working heater, for instance. :D I like puttering around in my Single cab more than driving modern cars. I seem to enjoy the ride more...

AC...WC...any VW is good with me...just keep that Honda shit out of my driveway (they make a pretty good lawnmower though.)

I'll run ya, but only in a straight line :) None of that crazy turning stuff :)

I have heard of the watercooled vs. aircooled thing, but I have never personally seen it. I race my watercooled at a big aircooled event, and everyone is really cool down there.

It's not the car make, model or year. It's how much time and effort you put into it to make it yours. While I may not do something you would, I can still respect it. Honda K-series make INSANE horsepower. I'm not a honda fan, but seeing a 10-11 second street legal honda makes my jaw drop.

My 12 second all motor 8 valve. One of the quickest of it's kind. Wish someone kept watercooled drag records. I think I have the quickest stock engine/non turbo scirocco.

and my SLOW but sweet cruisin mobile

cat's eyes since removed, previous owner had them on, but too much chrome for me.

mdnick Wed May 14, 2008 7:31 pm

i sold this to fund my 67 beetle project...

i've also had about 4 rabbits, and daily drive a mk3 vr gti.
