Looking at your pictures makes me want to buy a house with 3 car garage so I can re-do my whole BAJA again!!! Your car looks awesome :D
The flat LED light bar on top of the bumper is just sick!!

brywisco:
I put a 15 inch steering wheel on this thing to help with the "strong arm" steering. Definitely not power steering but so far it's not so bad. I really need to get it out in the dirt before I can tell how it really handles.

The light bar is the VisionX 20 inch and let me tell you something it is sick  I'm absolutely amazed at the light output from this thing. Literally blinding if you look straight at it. Needless to say, I have a pair of lightforce 240 Blitz for sale :P. Good deal if anyone looking....

How'd it handle offroad?

Adrenaline Junky Mon Aug 13, 2012 10:29 pm

Been tweaking on the baja a little lately. Originally I thought the front end was very stiff (and it was) but once I mounted the spare tire up there it helped a little when offroad. More miles will also probably break it in. Here's a few old photos I had an thought I would share.

I have since blown this thing apart and it's it's currently in 500 pieces getting ready for paint. More pics on that progress coming shortly. This is the Final, Final push for completion.

Rear limit strap mount

Hall Effect sensor for the speedo. Couldn't be grounded so I came up with this aluminum bracket. It will pick up the signal from the CV bolts.

Front turn signal and running lights are LED. They are super bright even in the daylight for 3/4 inch across.

Had to figure out a way to raise the hood without disconnecting a bunch of wires. I found these 3 pin connectors that pull apart and they work like a champ.

Also used the connector for the rear cage. I can unplug it and pull the whole cage off the back of the car with the fan, radiator, and lights still attached.

Got the spare mounted.

Got the seat belts mounted.

Welded all the molding and fender holes up then stripped it down for paint.

Seems like I'm back where I started years ago :P

Got the wifey a Honda Pilot last weekend. She wanted to park it in the garage and asked when it was going to be cleaned out?

I moved everything......

.....into the front living room  and she's still not happy, go figure. Someimes they just don't understand.

vwracin2win Thu Aug 23, 2012 9:24 pm

Haha o man I think my wife would literally kill me!
I love the car keep up the good work!

Bajabugman1970 Fri Aug 24, 2012 3:08 am

That is one good looking car and great fab work. I no longer have the wife but still have my baja and can do anything I want to in the house now haha.

Just remember, happy wife, happy life.

Actually my wife is understanding and very patient with my projects. That last pic is not the main living room, it's that extra "sitting" room that is in some homes. Trust me, that would not have happened in the main living room. Got the cage all painted last night. I'll toss some pics up in a few.

bajamike560 Sun Aug 26, 2012 3:05 am

GREAT to here she is OK with projects.
Looking forward to more photos and build updates, at you're leisure of course. Making time to keep wife happy takes time out of many hours of car builds in most of our life's.
Keep at it and post pix when you can. :D

As you saw I painted parts of the cage, trailing arms, nerf bars and some misc parts.

I used a product called Rust Bullet. It is a rust paint over rust product. I scuffed all metal first with a brillo pad to knock off the light rust. Then you spray their product called Metal Blast which is an acid etching product. 1 quart did all that I painted. Here's what it looked like after the metal blast.

After that all you need is about 10 hours to brush it all on. It requires 2 coats. I have banged the cage since and rust bullet is tough as nails.

Well back to body work. Holly crap sanding takes time. No wonder I got quoted 5k for body work and paint....

Looks very nice. Were did you find that stuff at?

Baja mike,

I used to live in Vancouver NE 34 st off 164th. Weather killed me, had to move to Cali for more vitamin D.

I got the rust bullet at......Rustbullet.com

Talk to Allison if you call. She is very knowledgeable about their products and very helpful. I bought the 4 qts special for $180 and free shipping. Only used 2 of them to cover all that you see, I just didn't want to run out in the middle of the job. I would unload the other 2 if someone is interested

I have always wanted to learn body work and paint. I figured since I have done everything else on this car I might as well cut my teeth on some body work. It was 108 degrees in Roseville, 115 in the garage on the day I learned! Went through 1.5 gallons of water and didn't pee all day. What a treat that was.

But over time I applied filler, sanded, applied filler, sanded, applied filler....well you get the idea. Any way, kind of glad that step is over.

Been taping up the cage to lay the primer. That's another fun job

vwracin2win Sun Sep 09, 2012 7:03 pm

nice! you have a color in mind yet?

Wayne26 Mon Sep 10, 2012 3:02 pm

looking good.. almost there!

paint was the worst for me. I found no matter how good it looked in primer once I applied the paint all the hidden inperfections showed. ended up wet sanding and painting the car 3 times before I could live with it.. lol
