Anyone know if this is the correct vintage for a 59? I think it is and intend on using it for the dc.

Tim,
I cant believe I have not seen this thread until now. Thank you for this very much! Your skills are impressive and this thread is a wealth of information!
Of note, did you have to replace the whole passenger side panel up to the bottom of the bed rather than halfway up the gas filler door? It looks that way in the last pic of the side panel, or perhaps it is the camera angle.
Thanks! |

I just bought a wheel well replacement panel and used the whole thing on that side as the og panel was dented/warped/rusted out.
What I should have done is asked if a panel was available that would go all the way up to the bed. I think Gersons (metwiz) sells them that way now for trucks. |

Tim, that is some great work.
I also like doing shaping/fitting and pounding before sandblasting, when people sandblast everything at one time, they don't realize how much bodywork could be done before that. They also don't know how much work you need to protect bare metal that is left untouched. |

Its not as hard now as when I first started as I'm sure you know. The thing I found is it took much longer to do than originally planned, and more metal had to be replaced than had planned on too.
I need to get back to work on this dc too! |

True. I wouldnt have done this if not in the desert and had access to a garage with a home made paint booth. Doing this job in small pieces would make the job much more manageable. But I have never been able to do things that made a lot of sense. |

I have a 1960 double cab that I got in exhange for installing a nose panel on his 1962 double cab. Since it needs a right front frame rail, seat pedestal, and nose panel, he threw in a frame rail with a seat pedestal and a nose panel. Someone had gone wild, after an accident, and used an arc welder to replace the whole right front, from the front half of the dog leg and seat pedestal, up through the dash and nose panel and A pillar. It was the worst body work that I have ever seen.
I have removed the front clip and I bought a 1964 front clip, complete with dash and most of the front floor, that I am going to put on it. Bullet front turnsignal platforms will be welded on. The other things that have to be replaced are the rockers, wheel wells, and corner panel. Luckily, it has good side gates and a title with a non-op.
I've been wanting to finish my 1958 walk-thru camper, and the truck is on jackstands and is blocking it from being moved so I have been thinking of selling the truck. Maybe your great post will get me motivated to finish it. |

Campy,
My bus has some awful frame rail rot have you (or anyone) replaced entire sections? Would I just list wanted frame rail? I also understand I would MIG that in, what setting works best I have a Lincoln 135 with argon gas.
I have looked around for pictures of folks doing this type of work but didn’t find much. Any other places or ways to search this out?
My little (first bus) rusty mess is still on life support and even though it would be smarter to just find a rolling shell the more I see work like Tim’s and photos of my old welding projects I think I should at the very least try to work this out. I know I need to replace all the metal below the belt line and I really don’t have a problem with that I just want to secure the frame before I make any attempt to do that. She has a clean title which I use as her respirator….lol.
My ride is here
