Lookin at getting into a 56 Oval rag project but it needs heater channel work. Looks liek tiny pin holes in the channels. I am by no way a body work guy so I just wanted advice. I alwasy thought that a bug with cancer in the heaters was to far gone. If this is not so plese give me your take on the situation. Also if I do get inot this project what will a job like that cost me? I want it all done professionally to factory standards. Going to be a total pan off origional restoration. Thanks for the tips.

I am a highschool student and i have been working on a super beetle project that needed heater channel repair. I bought heater channels for both sides for about $100 a piece. After welding them in and messing up i was very mad so i got in contact with some very helpful people that i met on websites. They said it is a vey important process in restoration. I emailed some proffesionals and the said it would cost about $2000. I said f*&^ that ya know so i just did alot of emailing and was able to do the job my self. A heater channel replacement is a very rewarding experience if done correctly. I would imagine that it would be costly to have someone do the work for you. It is a major undertaking and requires some skill with metal working and welding. Safety first, but that is one of the reason why it is important to do a heater channel replacement and to do it correctly , as a rusted out channel is unsafe! Tiny pin holes can lead to swiss cheese especially on heater channels as they usually will rust from the inside out, so by the time you notice it they are full of rust.
