First time working on a Type 1. Can anyone explain (or better still paste a pic) of how to install heater box linkages? I'm trying to figure it out.
Did a search and I get somewhat vague results, and yes, I ordered a Bentleys but it's not here yet :(
Any help is gladly appreciated. Thanks. |

Where are your arms on the boxes?
Up on top?
Or pointing down? |

I have this same question on my 68 bus. The arms on the heater boxes point down. The cables seem like they should be connecting to arms that point up.
What do I have to change/fix to make this work properly? |

Arms that point down, with the connector at the bottom are bug heater boxes.
68 to 71 buses use bus heater boxes.
They had 211 part numbers because of this.
211 255 105 A is left, subbed to 043 255 105 F
211 255 106 B is right, subbed to 043 255 106 F
Bug boxes are:
043 255 107 L left
043 255 108 L right
You cannot get bus box levers new. You can only get new levers for bugs and 67 and back buses, 043 298 103 and 043 298 104.
68 to 71 bus heater box are 68 to 71 bus heater boxes. |

I had the same problem with my Bus, it had Beetle Heat Exchanger Boxes, and the caused a couple of problems.
The 68 - 71 Type 2 Buse's, with Type 1 engines, have Heat Exchangers with the lever on the "outside" or "tire side" of the exchanger. Your cables, would then connect to those "outside" levers. If you try to attach them to the "inside" levers, the cables will cut across your CV Joint boots, and you'll have to replace those. Now ask me how I know.
I bought new Danish made heat exchangers, and installed them this summer, along with new cables and new boots for my Driver's side CV Joint. Not my favorite jobs, but I now have real heat, and my CV Joints are once again properly protected. :D |

Not unless you are prepared to do some welding
Holset, do your cables move at the back? they could be siezed in the full hot position or the ends are gone. |

| The cables have the ends, and the cables move freely. I connect them up, but I just don't look right. |

| Can some one post a picture of what these look like. I think I have the correct one for the passenger side but can not find a number on it. I has what appears to be a "hat" on the top of it. It's for sale if it is the correct one for you. Thanks! |

| Sure did and mine does not look like that. It has connections on both ends, approximately 2 1/4 inches wide. This thinkg looks like it could be used on either left or right side. |
