View original topic: One piece window problems

I just bought a 63 ragtop and the po put in one piece windows. The drivers side works ok (not very smooth winding up/down) but the passenger side is completely messed up.
There is a small box inside the door on the hinge side. When I lower the window about six inches the glass hits the box and stops.
Is there any way to get around this? By looking at it, it looks like I have to somehow have the box removed but it's really secure.
Thanks for any help.

Have you removed the door catches and replaced them with the cable crap that comes with a window kit? I have done two one piece conversions, but only in post 70 VW Bugs... Usually the window regulator will give out quickly if it is the original one because of the extra forward weight the one piece glass adds to it. That might be why the operation is crummy.

There is no door catch, just the bare hinge. It's the box inside the door that's left over from the door catch that's the problem. That's what the glass is hitting. I tried chiseling the box out but there's no room to work and I don't want to mess up the door any more than it already is.

Man, replace the doors! No ragtop 63 deserves to be belittled by one piece windows! If I have offended you, just remember it is my opinion only!

No offense taken. I plan on replacing the doors eventually but right now I just want to get the window working correctly. Is there a way to fix this?
