ALL right... i am planing to build a 76mm x 87mm engine. with 050 mofco heads (42x37), hpmx 44mm carbs, 1:1.25 ratio rockers. I have heard a lot of good and tons of bad about these engines with this combo. i want to settle this for good. I have heard these engines produce good torque which is nice for burn outs lol  However what is the Horse power of these suckers... Is it possible to create 140 hp with this combo with tuning.... I like this set up because i dont have to do any major case boring and some small crank clearancing. what are your thoughts let me know ....

Hot VW has been workning on an engine that is 76 x 85.5, I believe its a 1745, fairly close to what you are talking about. With dual 1 barrel solex carbs it dynoed at 92 hp. Although it was tuned for mpg efficiency, I just dont see how it could reach 140 hp, maybe 115.

I see a couple problems right off the bat.
I don't think Mahle makes 87mm piston/cylinder setups for a stroker which mean you will be doing some cylinder shimming to keep the piston from popping out the top of the cylinder. Put a set of 90.5's or even 94's in the motor and you will have even more torque and HP, along with less buildup issues.
Empi HPMX carbs are JUNK. Find yourself a set of real Webers.
I'm done commenting on MOFOCO heads and engines.

you dont need stroker pistons for your 76mm crank
just some small shim.

i agree that the HPMX are junk, get the real webers
