| On my 67- Java Green-there are a very few spots of paint missing or a bit of rust starting so can you tell me, in steps, how to clean it out and how best to paint it to look the nicest? It has a clearcoat on the whole body- so nice!! Trying to feather it in, of course. Thanks all, Paula :"> |

| You can't spot clear a panel. You can spot color coat a repair but you have to clear the entire panel. Are these like rock chips or do you want to repaint the entire lower body? Are you expecting to do this yourself at home? |

| No, no just a small 1/4 round spot where paint came off and also small spot of rust starting on bottom door corner- like that. I want to sand, prime, then paint and if you could just give me advice and product recomm. I would be half on my way- I am trying to figure what color this bug is exactly before ordering paint. thanks for helping MW....Paula |

not to be too rude Paula, but your talking like you could just throw some nail polish on those spots and call it a day. You will not be able to just go and order some paint without blending into the panels around the door. If you plan to do this yourself for the first time, I suggest you take it to someone with blending and tinting experience to mix your color to blend the panels. If you just bought the color that was og you will need to paint the whole car to match the repair with the exsisting panels.
if there is rust in one spot there is rust in others. |

| The former owner had it painted og and clearcoated not long ago and it was done nicely but it got a nick in it and then that bit of rust. Yes, I can see what you are saying about blending and I will talk to a paint co. here for further help. Thanks k, Paula |

Good advice Kosmic. I was heading there too. Once you start talking about a bunch of spot repairs and multiple blends, you're better off doing a complete respray. I was going to suggest she save up the $3-4k for a respray and just stop the rust with some brush-on product (front and back...treat it like a rock chip) until the money is there.
Moral of the story: touch up the rock chips as they occur or you will have bigger rusty spots later. |
