| Use "Wax and Grease Remover" to do that. It is the norm in bodyshop prepping agents. PPG's stuff is call DX 330... Ask for wax and grease remover at any body shop supply store- they'll know! Paint thinner is for cleaning paintbrushes, not for automotive use! |

| rshortk..thanks.....but there isn't any wax or grease to remove..the car was just painted two weeks ago..I just want to remove all of the sanding dust off the surfaces before I apply the second coat of paint...is Wax and Grease Remover a petrolium based product like laquer thinner or or is it waterbased like TSP? |

Still use the stuff... It will catch even the smallest bit of oil you may have left by simply putting bare skin to the surface. It is the general cleaner used to free up dust as well...
Have fun! It evaporates just fast enough to work with, and you can wetsand with it if you have small bits of dust to get out in between coats. By using it to wetsand instead of water you eliminate the possibilty of getting water jammed in cracks between coats too. W&G remover evaporates a lot faster than water, yet it WILL NOT lift you paint of like thinner.
Use one very wet, almost dripping cloth folded into 1/4s to wash and another 1 or 2 DRY cloths to catch up with the wet, cleaned areas about 10 seconds after the wet rag. By drying after you clean you actually remove the grime and dust you're seeking to get rid of much better.
Good Luck! |
