I didn't see a lot of sound set up for the bus. So here is mine i just did. So i wanted a clean look,
and didn't really want to see any speakers or the ipod if i didn't want to.
I still like the stock radio but i didn't want the trouble of getting it working.
So, imac speakers, amp, and hidden bazooka tube. under new z bed. Next I want to do the
speakers in the luggage for the back. . . . .Let's see how you did it.
Thanks for looking. |

Has anyone else done this sort of setup? I'd like a bit more info on how it's all wired together.
Thanks,
Chris |

Your safari window latches are not on right.
Hold your hands out in front of you ... so if you press the button with your thumb you want to turn the latch with your fingers, so swap them left to right and it'll be more ergonomic.

| Do you only want Ipod set-up pics? You must wear your underpants on the outside of your pants the way you got your Sapphire plate. Clean bus. |

You guys are all missing the point. I resurrected this thread to ask about wiring an ipod directly to an amp, not to criticize his speakers or safaris. Can anybody help? I don't have a radio and just got an ipod, so I'd like to do something "similar" to what he did.
Thanks,
Chris |

Almost all amps have line-in inputs, and you can get a line-out cable for your ipod to connect it to the amp. If you're looking for where to mount the amp or speakers, there have been several threads on such things. The cleanest Westy install has to be Major Woody's - see page 3 of this thread:

i got the same deal. my bus is an ipod boombox. i call it the stereoless stereo. my ipod goes to rca's with a y cable and i split that into two amps. one pushes tens and the other 6.5's in the rear, 4's in the front. I tapped into the dash stereo so the on off controlls the amp's on off. Volume on the ipod. works good but my bus has a shitload of engine noise. take it easy.

do those strut type things holding the seat box open come as standard or did you add them in? I'm fed up of trying to keep the seat up with my head, it plays havoc with my hairdo |

Looks like that panel has an early Bay Westfalia camper kit in it.
Yes, the struts do hold the bed in that position on the westy bed/seats. Oh, ya, the struts slide into a slot to hold the bed like that. You pull up and they slide out of the slot.
Bill is paranoid aboot people calling westy beds z-beds, a little gun happy.
So it's like Kleenex, people use the brand name for other brand items of that type. Z Products (or something like that) is a certain company. Westfalia and others also made fold out beds. So that bus with the speaker box has a Westy 'Z-bed'.  I think the early bay westy ones are well made and comfy. Someone took the door off it, FWIW |

Sounds good to me. It was there when I bought the bus and I actually replaced it with a 70 bed and changed the bottom brackets over. I'd like to get a door for it if anyone has one. Everytime I see them in the classifieds, it is the wrong size. This one must be kinda oddball. |

| I like that setup grumpy. I was gonna look toward marine stereos cause they're white and waterproof, a good thing if I ever get safari's. I want to do the ipod dock thru the dash ashtray, no head unit, just amp and speakers. I'd like to see more plans or ideas if anyone has 'em.. |

I have a dock I ripped apart and put in my ashtray, I got hold of an early ipod dock, without a remote control sensor or video or whatever else they have on the new ones, I took off all of the casing and there isn't much left inside there, most of it is a big weight. Then I got a rotted out ashtray so I wouldn't mind cutting it a bit, I cut a hole out of the back of it for the dock lead to come out of and the ipod can just slide straight in. I unpicked the lid of my original ashtray and fitted it to the cut up one, when the lids down you would never know it was there
if you come out of the line output on the ipod you wont be able to control the volume, so you will need something to turn it up or down, this is bloody expensive but it will do it http://www.goldpt.com/dims.html something similar will do it but probably not sound as good, but probably wont cost so much either. |
