My original post was lost in the crash.
I got this Jan 20th. It pretty solid and doesn't have a lot of rust. The car is complete and original. I'm going to do a 2" narrowed beam, disc brakes, repop fuchs and some accessories. I have almost all the parts to get it going, I just need some nice weather. I'm going to leave the paint for now. I will try to buff it and see how it turns out.

I scrubbed the car down with CLR, warm water and scotch-brite pads (right side of hood). It really got rid of the grime and surface rust. The roof was tough because it's badly rusted. I mixed in a little of POR's Marine Clean when I did the roof and it got rid of the roof rust. I think I'm going to blend primer in with the existing on the roof.
Here is a 'before' pic of the roof. I'll take an 'after' one in the next couple days. |

The car has been sitting since the mid 80's. I ran the fuel line directly from a gascan and it started right up and idled perfectly. The problem is that it leaks a ton of oil.

It's a stock 1200. I am thinking of doing an 83mm big bore kit, '66 1300 heads, dual Kadrons and an .010. I'm not sure if that combo will work, I'll figure that out once I find out the condition of the engine. |

Thanks. The weather is FINALLY nice this whole week but I have to get 3 teeth pulled Friday. I'm guessing I'll be laid up for awhile. If it isn't one thing, it's another. |

I used POR marine clean undiluted and scrubbed the roof down with a scotchbrite pad. |

I primed the roof and lightly sanded it to blend it in. That should take care of the rust until I decide if I'm going to paint the car. |

Here's the wheels (5.5 repops) and tires. I was going to do 145's in the front, but, I think I'm going to use the 175/55/15's I have from the ghia. I don't want a gap between the tire and front fender. I will mount them up and see how they look. I'm thinking of using 195/60/15's on the rear.
I'm still debating as to whether or not I'm going to paint the wheels completely black or leave them polished. |

Put a few parts on to see how it's going to look. |

Photoshop of roughly how it will sit. I'm thinking of doing a Coca Cola logo on the doors.
I'm going to get some rubbing/polishing compound today and try to bring some of the paint back. I'm going to try and do it by hand because I don't want to burn through the paint.
Any suggestions on what to use? |

I would just use any machine compound, just use your hands instead of a polisher, but you will have to go over it with a polish then wax.
Cleaner waxs can work good too, try a test area. Plus it will kill two birds with one stone. |

Have you been able to get that duct tape adhesive off yet? If not, get some 3M adhesive remover, it works great and will not damage the paint. |

I ended up only using the 3M Hand Glaze. It's a lot of work but so far it's coming out nice. I think I'm going to try and machine buff it. It's hard to get a consistent finish by hand. |

Yes, I used lacquer thinner. It takes off about the same amount of paint as buffing. |

Lee, I use this PPG product called DX330 to take off goo without damaging the paint at all. A quart will cost about $10 at any autobody supply store that deals in PPG products. Laquer thinner will eat your paint off if you rub too hard. |

That's good to hear. At least it's not going to end up all taken apart and paintless in the classifieds section...
